Beautiful artistry!

We were here on a Saturday and expected the shop to be closed, but were pleasantly surprised to find Dean there and he welcomed us in. He gave us a tour of his workshop and explained his technique and how he discovered it. It was such a pleasure speaking with him. His work is stunning and we look forward to his shipment to us arriving to our home soon!

Artistic Experience

My daughter and son in law knew about the Potter and his shop. They wanted to purchase some of his unique pottery. The artist was very gracious and gave us a tour and explained the process he uses to create his glorious plates, vases and so on. They made their purchases and we all had a great time seeing all that was available. It is worth the effort to find this unassuming workshop whenever you visit Hawaii.

Fascinating!

We found this place almost by accident a couple of years ago. We had a long chat with Dean and bought a couple of mugs and a tray. When we returned to Kauai, I was looking at a friend's Facebook post which included a short video which I immediately recognized. We decided to visit again, and although Dean was traveling, Renee spent a long time with us. We found out that soon after our last visit, a video of Dean and his process went viral causing lots of changes and pressures to his studio. The pottery is still stunning although prices have risen. Still, you won't find anything like it. We have moved all of our pieces from a kitchen cupboard to the china cabinet...

Awesome artist, pushing some new boundaries.

Dean's work has become very popular, so popular that it was sold out when we went to visit on 7/13/2018. Other artists work available in his shop too.

Amazing work

If you like ceramic, you must stop and visit the light wave studio. The work with color clay is outstanding and the persons we met knowledgeable. (The owner was not there when I visited). The pieces are expensive but if you understand the process to make each piece, then the price is appropriate. If you cannot afford one, then still visit the studio as it is a one of a kind art that you will discover!

Beautiful pottery
May 2018 • Family
We visited this studio after watching the video of the colorful embedded design process, hoping we could purchase a piece, but they were sold out. Still, the owner and hhis assistant were very friendly, and showed us a block of prepped clay that was soon to be cut and shaped. They had other beautiful pottery for sale, and I bought a bowl with a beautiful green glaze. Fun quick stop on the outskirts of Kapaa.

Friendly and Very Interesting

We heard about this potter from a friend and looked him up. It is quite hard to find but not hard to get to. A rustic shop in an out of the way location but a very friendly potter who is happy to talk to the customers and show them around his shop. His use of used restaurant oil to fire the kiln is novel and he rightfully is proud to have developed it to a fine state of performance. His pottery style is also unique in that he uses coloured clay to make the patterns on the products and not a painted on glaze. the result is stunning and vibrant.

Original ceramic clay process and pottery glazes!!
Jul 2017 • Friends
I love original pottery, hand-thrown or sculpted, anything that's original and done well. I certainly don't want anything that looks like it came off an assembly line. Dean's artwork is inspiring. I found an beautiful vase in deep magenta with a black collar that is simply amazing. I visit pottery studios everywhere I travel, and let me tell you, he has glazes I haven't seen before...magenta, violet, deep rose and the spectrum of red to blue. Of course, he has plenty of other color choices and they are very well, done, too. He has pioneered a technique with ceramic clay that resembles milleflori glass...you just have to see it.
Dean's shop is a block off the main highway. The parking is ample on the road, then you walk though tall gates to the back of the yard on the right...and there he is! The shop is pretty warm this time of year, but Dean is a good guy to talk to, especially if you're interested in the heart and soul of his process. It's worth the stop just to see what he's up to.
I bought three pieces and would have loved more. Dean agreed to ship them home for me and took my cell number to text me the tracking number when the package ships.
It was a fun and interesting outing, something different and original. Dean was a good teacher and host. The pieces I got are sure to be enjoyed by my family for many, many years to come.
