On a clear day this is a truly spectacular hike. Ascend about one mile through lush rain forest to a clearing where you will find a picnic table. Up to this point, the walk is beautiful, offering excellent view into dense valleys below. However, this...More

Although not a technically difficult hiking trail, the Kuilau Ridge Trail will be so memorable! The trail is well maintained and so easy to follow. No chance of getting lost on this hike since there is only one path. With some gentle elevation gain, you...More

Gradual terrain, lots of ripe guava, could get muddy, awesome trees/plants/views of hillsides. The tree canopy is so thick it looks like a carpet from above! Pretty neat views!

We did this hike early one late July morning. It had rained during the night, but the trail was not too bad. There was not a lot of steep up and down, so inexperienced hikers should be OK. Beautiful scenery!

We took a mid-afternoon hike along the Kuilau Ridge Trail after parking in the small lot right at the entrance of the trailhead on Rt. 580 (Kuamoo Road). Since it had rained earlier in the day, the beginning of the trail on the forest road...More

Muddy trail, huge tree canopy, amazing views, birds ... and one heck of a nice breeze along the ridgeline!!! Go all the way to the trail end to the wooden bridge, then turn around a listen for a waterfall. Decent is steep and trecharous compared...More

The trail was very muddy. Make sure to wear insect repellent. Not a steep climb but it does incline and is slippery. There is a stream at base and a waterhole down stream to swim

This 2.1 (one way) mile, red dirt trail is an old forest road offering hikers majestic views of both Mount Waialeale and Mount Nounou for minimum effort. There is only gradual ascension, hardly noticeable as the views propel curiosity and awe. At one point, the...More

We rented bikes for a half day and rode this trail, which runs right along the Pacific Ocean. We rented 3-speed cruisers, and they worked well on this trail. The rental rate was reasonable. We stopped regularly to photograph the scenery. We rode 16 to...More

This is not a very strenuous day hike, requiring two hours at most, and providing so many good elements of Kauai. All along the trail there are great views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, especially the highest, Wai'ale'ale. Further up, you look out over...More

On this and many Kauai hikes, I've worn about every foot covering available from Five Finger Vibrams to Tevas to sneakers to hiking shoes. They all worked well for me. The deciding factor is -- how muddy will the trail be... More

It's obvious. You will continue past Wailua Homesteads on the right toward the end of the road. At the bottom of a hill there will be 4 or 5 spaces and a "red" metal gate on the right. There is also a sign indicating the... More
