Michelle and her family have the best guides on the island. They took us to so many different places we would have not found without their tour. They also assist with helping you get the best shot. They are happy to take group photos of your traveling party as well.

I have been using this company since 2010 whenever I am on Kauai. I highly recommend them. I will be booking another tour for next year's trip.

If you want a fun experience and are not into ziplining, surfing, etc. and want something fun, but a little more tame, then Kauai Photo Tours is the ideal way to spend the day.
My wife and I are not photo nuts, but do like taking pictures with our small portable digital cameras. However, if you are into photography in a big way, Kauai Photo has experienced photographers as their guides. Our guide, Duane, was a professional, and provided my wife and I with some helpful tips to use with our little point and shoot cameras.

The thing that makes the trip worth the expense is that you will get to see places that you would have never found if left on your own. You can drive that rental car all over the island, and you will not find 10% of the views we were driven to. Also, Kauai Photo will rent you a SLR, if you want professional quality photos.

Hint: Take a poncho or sweat shirt, as the weather changes during trip, and from setting to setting.

I have to share this with people who would enjoy having a local professional photographer as a tour guide on this garden island. Vincent Tylor is great to show you the the most beautiful locations to take the best shots. He will even provide you with great cameras or camcorders if you do not have the equipment. I tried the Nikon D60 with the polarizer. I didn't know what the polarizer was, but it sure created the best shots of the beaches, waterfall. They even provide lunch and snacks. Call him at 808 823-1263 or visit on-line at hawaiianphotos.net. His photos are the ones on sale in the shops that are already matted and ready for framing! His wife does the Kauai Painting Tours. She takes you to a beautiful location and provides all the materials needed for art lovers.

I booked this tour because photography is a hobby of mine, plus my husnand and I have visited Kauai many times. I thought we would see new locations and I would be working with a professional local photographer, who would provide tips on composition, lighting, etc. The price for the private tour was $439.00--a bit steep, but worth it to gain knowledge and perhaps have some great photographs (so I thought).

This was not the case. We were assigned to Keani, who was extremely nice and knowledgeable about the island (having lived here her entire life), but she is not much more knowleable than I was when it came to photography. When asked about her experience she said she gained a lot of knowledge on You Tube (hmmm). In fact, on the first stop, I asked about her preference for taking water shots and she said to shutter speed at 1/125. She then assisted in setting the speed on my camera, randomly pressing buttons on my camera. At the next stop my camera stopped functioning. I was devastated, long story short I was able to finish the tour, by removing and inserting the battery each time I wanted a photo. When the tour was over and I had time to read the manual, I reset the camera and it has worked perfectlly for the remainder of our trip.

We did go to three locations we had never seen before and a different view at another location. The time of day we left did not allow for good photos as the sun was too high, even the guide said any time before 11:00 a.m. It was mid afternoon when we were trying to take the photos.

Overall, I think the way the tour is described is misleading. Perhaps stating " a local 'amateur ' photographer" would be more appropriate. Also, buying the Ultimate Guide (blue book) and watching YouTube would save you $439, plus tip (yes, they expect a tip after this huge price tag).

I am a professional photographer residing in Alaska. I visit Kauai several times per year and over the past few years I have gone on every single photo tour offered by Kauai Photo Tours.

The tours are an incredible value for money and it is hard to believe they don't charge more for what they do. All of the guides are locals and many of them were born and raised on Kauai. We were taken to amazing locations only known by locals. I had been coming to Kauai for years and did not know about the sea caves that were not even a half a mile away from our villa. We hired Matt as a private guide who impressed us with his warm aloha spirit and amusing local insights that we could not get on our own. On a single afternoon with Matt we found ourselves shooting a secret waterfall followed by sunset photos over the Na Pali Coast with results that looked like they fell out of the pages of a calendar.

I credit Michele and Vincent's in-depth knowledge of photography for some of my own technical success as a photographer. Before Kauai Photo Tours enlightened me, I had never taken many good photos of Hawaii because the harsh sunlight directly overhead washed out my images, and magic hour was such a small frame of opportunity. But it was their insight to the photo polarizer that changed the course of my own photography for life. Another reviewer here mentioned to not bother with a polarizer and just pop the levels inside Lightroom and Photoshop. That simply will not work. Without a polarizer the photos of the ocean will be glaring and harsh and you will not be able to see the coral reefs below the surface of the water. If you don't believe me hold up a polarizer to your eye and focus on the harsh sunlight on a car window. Turn the polarizer and watch the glare vanish. Do yourself a favor and pop a polarizer on and you have magic hour in Hawaii all day.

Michele and Vincent embody the true spirit of Aloha and you have not experienced all that Kauai has to offer without one of Michele's welcoming hugs and an adventure with Kauai Photo Tours.

Boston TSA has taken my camera battery out of my carry-on and didn’t tell me (so much more to this story). Nowhere in Princeville or Lihue could I find a battery. Happened to park in front of this store while in Kapaa and thought I’d ask. Sure enough not only did they have it I got 2. With a charger. And an international attachment. And car adapter. Michelle is fantastic and was a huge help (and sympathetic ear). Hoping to go on a photo tour as well. Thank you!!!

Kauai Photo Tours does a truly wonderful job of showing you around many beautiful, secluded spots of the island, most of which you would never stumble upon on your own. The team are very welcoming. Matt, our guide for the day was cheerful, friendly, and had a wealth of information and stories to share. He talked about the language and history of the islands, shared funny stories of himself figuring out local traditions as he settled on the island, and he also had great tips for photographing the various sites we visited. Some of the spots were so hidden, I felt like Indiana Jones walking through the jungle as we walked down the little paths :)
Overall, a busy, interesting, informative, fun and adventurous day. I highly recommend it!

I found this tour group on Trip Advisor and was so happy that I had looked AND booked a trip at the beginning of our stay in Kauai. Best thing we did!! Levi, our guide, helped me with my polarizing filter and several times helped me with my mirrorless camera to adjust settings etc., so that was very helpful. However, it was so much more than that! My husband willingly went along for the fun of it and he had a blast even if photography is not his thing (though once upon a time it was), but he enjoyed the ride, the views, the history of the island provided by Levi or his insights (very bright guy!!!) into the island. We stopped at a great place for lunch to get a real Kauai type meal and it was just a perfect day!! Do it at the beginning of your stay so you get a feel of the island and can ask him any questions!! Being a native, he knows so much!!! Worth every penny!

Booked the first tour available on their site (the basic one, no hiking). Essentially a sight seeing tour, but almost no sights that couldn't be reached alone which has it's pros and cons. Since they were all public spots you could go back and visit them later on at a more leisurely pace or at a time with better light, but for the price you would expect a little more than just public spots. Additionally there was a mix up with the tour guides at the beginning of the tour so we had a late start. The tour guide was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, he had lots of advice on tours on the island and had some pointers on taking photos but nothing to write home about if you already have an okay understanding of landscape photography. I would do this tour again but I'd probably do the hiking tour option (seriously Kauai is the hiking island).

I had an AMAZING time on my hiking photo tour that I took on 04/16/13!!!! I have been on other photo safaris in other cities and this by far was the best experience I have ever had. The staff is friendly, down to earth and they are not photography snobs like you sometimes find in the camera stores! Our guide Christian was so patient and awesome, answering all of my dumb questions on how to do this or that with my new camera. Not only did I learn a lot about photography and my camera, I got to see wonderful sites in Kauai that I would have never ventured to on my own.

It is honest to say that although I am 44 year old mom in pretty good shape, I am also super lazy when it comes to exploring the great outdoors . I typically enjoy the beach lying down with a Mai Tai in hand vs. hiking down a ravine to see the surf. This tour was the perfect speed for a girl like me! The hike was a little challenging, but not too much at all. I think if you are lazy like me you would enjoy it and if you are an avid hiker you would enjoy it too because you are hiking in really cool areas that you might not otherwise be able to find. We accessed most locations from points that only a local would know about, I know as a tourist I likely could not have found my way around as well. We also ate at this awesome little food truck, I never would have stopped on my own, but the food was fresh, homemade and wonderful!

Christian was also so knowledgeable about the island and told us a lot of cool tidbits and stories about local sites. Again, stuff that I would never have sought out to learn on my own. He had a great rapport with our group and it was just a really great experience. He was such a great host and really facilitated a great day for the entire group. I would highly recommend Kauai Photo Tours in a heartbeat. It was by far my favorite activity that I did on my visit to the island. I cannot wait to return and take another tour with them!!!!
