Cute little town with a cool bridge.
Cute little town with cool bridge. We stopped here on the way to another destination. I would not go out of my way to see this, but if you're close by check it out. There are some stores to walk around in and we had a great Hawaiian treat from the shop right in front of the bridge. Worth the 30 minute stop.

Was a cool bridge to look at, but felt unsafe to walk on at some parts as the planks were loose. Nothing specifically bad about it, but nothing special either. If you're passing definitely take a look, but not worth making a special trip for

A must see when going through town.
A fun stop to make on a visit to this picturesque historic town. Beautiful view from the middle of the bridge. Bridge moves a bit, but walkway is very secure and screened in on both sides up about 4 and a half feet and large wooden handrails. There is a small wooden sign for it on the right once you are in the old part of town that’s tricky to see. There may be a local who makes leis near the bridge entrance. The bridge is free to cross and has foot trails along the dike on the west side.

A fun stop along our way out west. Cute little town. Bridge definitely got swinging especially with the young kids running ahead of us! Beautiful view of the river. Cute shops.

The Hanapepe Swinging Bridge has been one of Hanapepe’s most popular attractions. Historically, the bridge was built in the early 1900’s as a way for residents to cross a river to the west side of the river bank. The bridge is worn and in need of repair and is currently closed to pedestrian traffic. There are nearby galleries and shops and you can enjoy the festive Art Walk on Friday evenings.

I mean - what can I say? It's a swinging bridge. It goes over a river. It's not that high up which is a good thing because it really does swing! But it's fun to scare yourself a little bit. And it makes for a good photo op. If you're stopping in Hanapepe anyway, check it out. There is a little place selling art out of their home right across the bridge that is worth a visit too.

The town has attracted creative talented individuals.
Art galleries, shops, restaurants, and a bakery-restaurant kept me returning to the town after my hikes in Kokee and Waimea State Park.
I drove and walked around the town to see it’s personality.
The colorful trees with flowers cheered me up.
The painted art on an antique car brought a smile to my face.
Bouncing across the swinging bridge can be amusing.

Or visit was prompted more by an interest in visiting the town’s shops, it the bridge was to be a plus. On taking the first few steps up towards the suspended walkway I became a bit concerned about the somewhat decrepit condition of the wooden treads. Upon reaching the top of he stairs we were faced with a barricade and a “bridge closed” sign. The nearby shop had a jar for donations and I dropped in $10,00. Considering it would be hundreds of 1,000 to actually rebuild that landmark, it will likely never get done.

The Swinging Bridge may not be a tremendous highlight of your Kauai trip, but if you find yourself in Hanapepe (which you should) please take a moment and walk across. It provides an unique experience and is worth the diversion.

When we visited there was an art vendor at the opposite end and although we did not purchase anything the photography was great.

The swinging bridge in Hanapepe was a fun side trip on our way back to our resort in Poipu after a road trip to Polihale State Beach. The town of Hanapepe has cute shops and some food options and feels like a quaint quirky artist village. We walked around for about 30 minutes and window shopped and then walked across the bridge which was really beautiful. I of course wanted to make the bridge swing more but there are signs warning against rocking so I just walked quickly to the other side and back again. Old and young were doing it and there was no line or crowds...just a fun touristy thing to do and see some countryside and the many small towns of Kauai.

We stopped to visit the swinging bridge. It doesn't lead to anywhere except across the narrow river. We were also interested in the Friday Night Art walk held in Hanapepe but since Covid, the nights have been cancelled.

The view of the bridge is full of atmosphere and is unique to Hanapepe. Access is from the footpath next to the Spice Market. Cross the bridge while giving way to others. Since it is a small town, it takes about an hour to walk around, even if you browse some galleries, bookstores, and clothing stores. Even if you eat, it will take about two hours. If you plan to stop by on your way back from Waimea, you need to arrive in Hanapepe by 4pm, as some shops close around 5pm.

With high trade winds today, the bridge was really swinging. My kids had a blast but as someone who isn’t a huge fan of bridges to begin with, it was too much for me. Not very high bridge, just extra shakes and wobbly.

As noted by others here, this structure has seen better days. The sign notifying of the closure is hung on a fence closing off the actual deck, and is not visible until you climb up the approach staircase. By then I was dreading crossing, as the stair threads and supports were rickety. Finding it closed, my adventurous ego was saved, as I was forced back, honest.
