My hubby and I decided to try out surfing for my bday! We went down to this stretch known as Hanalei Beach. It's known to be a fairly safe spot with fairly predictable waters. It was a good day for learning, the waves were large enough to catch but not too overly sized that it wasn't suitable for learning. There... More

Sandy, long, perfect. We were there during the rainy season so it was nice and quiet ::) The waves were perfect.

Many films have used this beautiful scenic beach on the north shore on Kaua'i. It's a nice escape although it can get "crowded" at times. Pack a picnic lunch or spend some time walking the shops in town too!

Waves were interesting, but a great beginner spot. Highly recommend as a beach in general. Bring a cooler, find a spot, and enjoy!

We walked the entire crescent of this beach, so beautiful and tranquil even though there were quite a few people around.

Hanalei, home to the stars, attracts people from all over the world. The actual town is just a few block wide and deep, but the setting is magical. The town, beach, and bay are surrounded by lush green mountains with towering waterfalls. Bali Hai views amazing, and the pier is pretty unique.

We visited hanalei beach and found the waters calm and well suited for families. Further out in the bay there are waves for the surfer in you. Peaceful and very few people. Good for strolling and sunning

We stayed on the south side of the Island, but made a trip up north. The northern part is more lush, at least this time of the year. But, the temperature was also a bit lower. This beach is lovely. Expansive and beautiful view with mountains. The water is much calmer here, so we saw a lot of paddle boarders.... More

I rate this beach average because it's the main beach for the area, meaning it's always busy and you can't get a spot to yourself, which is my personal favorite. But this beach is wide and long, the bay is gorgeous, and it's perfectly acceptable for non-snobs. :) Have a great time!

It is called heavenly Hanalei for a reason. It is truly heaven on earth. We have been many times and when we returned yesterday after a long stint away, it was pouring rain, mist and clouds over the mountains and it still brought a smile to our faces. Rain or shine, it is spectacular.
