Tresor-Rare is a SCAM. Stay away!

Moritzio approached me outside his store while I was walking around Ching Young Village during vacation with my husband. He handed each of us a sample packet of eye cream and asked if I wanted him to demonstrate it. I said yes, but that we had plans and I could only stay a couple of minutes. He agreed and said he would apply the cream and give me a brochure if I wanted more information. We went inside and he applied the eye cream. It is one of those "instant facelift" creams that contains magnesium aluminum silicate (look it up on Google and EWG dot org). All of the "instant facelift" creams contain this key ingredient. I was just curious about what made his eye cream different or better. Anyway, he proceeded to try a very "hard sell" on me for the eye cream and its "system." Every time I tried to say "thank you, give me a brochure and I'll think about it" he launched into a new topic to try to keep me there. After a few more minutes my husband and I both began getting very annoyed. We had made it clear that we couldn't stay long, and he had promised only to take up a couple of moments of our time. He broke his promise. Finally, when we insisted that we had to leave, he shouted at us (direct quote) "You two are f**cking a**holes. Get out of my store." Then he stormed away. We were really taken aback. There was no reason for such abusive offensive language. We had been polite to him the entire time, going along with his sales pitch and demonstration. This store, and this man, bring shame to Ching Young Shopping Center and the town of Hanalei. I looked up the company on Google later and found so many complaints about them and their sister companies (which all sound like scams). I'm surprised that the beautiful town of Hanalei allows this rude shyster to harass and insult tourists and locals in such an overt and offensive way. In my opinion, Ching Young Village should not renew this store's lease when it comes up. Moritzio said he was Brazilian and had lived in Israel for a number of years. Well Moritzio, if you're reading this, you are a shonda on Hanalei. May your rude obnoxious behavior come back to you tenfold.

This shopping village has a Big Save Market connected to it, and I ended up finding some Lion Brand Hawaiian coffee there that was on sale and cheaper than at Walmart or Kmart. There are souvenir stores, surf shops, a ukulele store, tattoo parlor, and my husband loves Hanalei Pizza. Their hand thrown pizza recipe changed about 4 years ago – the dough has a “poor man's crust” that contains cornmeal and coconut water and is made daily. Their sauce is also made daily with Shiraz wine and dry herbs, and cures for up to 24 hours. The pizza is not greasy or soggy at all. There’s an L& L Barbecue that wasn’t there our last trip, and Chicken in a Barrel is there now too. Across the street is Bubba’s Burger and Paradise Shave Ice. It's a nice place to leisurely look at the souvenir shops.

We bought all our gifts here. You must check out the Kauai Nut Roasters Shop. Amazing nuts and you can sample before you buy.

Pop in for the Poke bowl at the counter on the left front of the store. Marinated Regular or Spicy Ahi tuna served on a bowl of hot sticky rise. $6.00. Outside food trucks selling the same for $16.00. Grab an ice cold beer out of the fridge and head to park at Hanalei Beach 3 minutes away and enjoy. Frankly, one of the best and most satisfying meals I had on Kauai Going back again for sure. This is a very local spot. Tourists dump their money at the food truck next to the store, while locals know to head inside.

Beware of the Con Artist Tactics at Tresor Rare!

My husband and I were scammed by these Con Artists.

They are slick junkyard dogs and have closed all the loops. I should have listened to the ringing bells when they have you sign your life away to get a 'free' facial. This signature also prevents one from cancelling the order or returning an unopened box. American Express also tried to help me, but the form for the facial release of liability also includes language regarding all transactions as 'final'. BUYER BEWARE... these are real hardcore Con Artists.

The staff at the Pedal n Paddle were super friendly. They give excellent deals on snorkeling equipment: $10/week mask & snorkel, $20w/ fins. Good quality. We rented for an extra 4 days and we were given a super good deal. In addition, when you rent from them they make a copy of your credit card, and anything you purchase at the store is put on a tab. It works as a benefit for the store, and for us: people probably purchase more and choose to rent for longer while they just put it on the tab. Easy for customers cause we don't have to continuously take out the credit card for additional purchases. They'd be my number one store to shop at for any outdoor products in the area.

Drove all the way to Hanalei because we heard about this cute shopping town. After we drove PAST it, we both said "that can't be it, can it"? It was.... Not what we were hoping for. A lot of low end T-shirt and puka shell shops with an occasional nice art gallery thrown in. If you're in the area, it's worth a perusal. Otherwise, it's a skip. There's better quality tourist shops in Old Koloa Town if you're on the south end of the island.

If you're expecting malls and grand shopping centers on Kauai, you will be disappointed. But if you like quirky, fun, and unique island shops, this is a great stop. Hanalei is my favorite part of the island and this shopping center is definitely the "heartbeat" of Hanalei. Lots of great shops, food, and close to Hanalei Bay.

The shops mostly consist of typical "island" shopping - some clothing, outrigger wear, gifts, instruments, and some art. But for Kauai, I have found a number of shops here that are unlike anything else on the island. Prices vary, from inexpensive to extraordinary, but there is just about something for everyone here. Stroll around across the street and don't miss the shops that are on the main road, just south of the Ching Young Center.

Great place to stop and shop and good for several hours. My favorite shopping stop in Kauai!

There is a store in this shopping center called Divine Planet where they have “vintage” Hawaiian shirts. I don’t know if they are “vintage” but they are silk and were buy two, get one free when we visited. They were the nicest shirts on the island at a great price. The people who helped us in both the Hanalei store and the Koloa store were very nice.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye ... T'is rather a nasty place, lacking charm and Aloha.
The merchants treat tourists "their bread and butter" with disdain, any special requests are treated with 'Huh? Go away you bother me!" The eateries tend to be frequented by locals, and so its 'their hang-out" Why oh, why do we go back, hoping for a different treatment perhaps. .. Foolish us! Best to visit the other establishments up and down the strip. However, the Anchor Big Save store is delightful and the staff is engaging .. Don't spoil your Aloha experience Ching Young is all wrong for 'this place',
