Beautiful beach
Jun 2021
This is my husband's favorite place to go in Kauai. We have been there multiple times. However, the pandemic has changed the character of the beach. The road that we normally take to get there now has cement barriers across it. There are many more homeless here than in previous years. They did not bother us but it made me feel very sad to see that so many families are now camping out there. This is the same thing we saw in Salt Pond Beach Park. The water remains beautiful and it is very calm. There were a few unleashed dogs on the beach. We still love the beach but it is not as peaceful as it once was.

Local Beach Spot
Nov 2019
This is a very local beach that was not at all crowded when we visited. There are two parking areas and it is important to note that they are not paved. We went during the rainy season and there were quite a few mud puddles (most were 4 inches or less depth). It was no problem for us in our Jeep, but I can imagine smaller cars could struggle after heavy rain.

We had the beach mostly to ourselves, minus a few locals napping down the beach. The water was clear and there were cute little crabs running all over the beach into their holes. The views were gorgeous and the palm-tree lined beach was peaceful. Note that the beach itself isn't very wide, so there isn't much room to lay out towels on the sand itself, but there is grass to use.

There are restrooms and a lifeguard station. I don't know how often the lifeguard is on duty.

Stay away
Dec 2019 • Friends
There are homeless living the the trees with dogs- it stinks like urine in certain areas- Kauai’s homeless population problem is awful and it appears no one cares about these indigents using the waterline as a bathroom..... Keep yourself safe and visit another island-

Wonderful waves and swimming at this public beach. Beautiful surroundings. There is a private campground nearby - Kumu.

Plastic

I’ve never seen so much plastic on a beach before. There were restrooms and ample parking. Scenery was pretty and water was warm

Be careful
Apr 2019 • Couples
Someone drilled a hole into our gas tank and all the gas was siphoned out of our car. Although it’s a nice beach, I would be extra careful. Not a lot of other campers either.

Not our favorite beach
Mar 2019 • Family
Not many people on the beach and no one in the water. It was a bit windy for us also. There are quite a few abandoned cars in the parking area and a transient encampment on one end. This is the same as we have seen in previous years. Not our favorite beach. There are better ones nearby (Anini, Keālia).

Just Ok
Mar 2019 • Couples
We were recommended this beach by someone in our resort as a place to see Sea Turtles. So on our way back from Hanalei we decided to stop in with our snorkel gear and give it a try

The beach was not very busy. Maybe 3-4 cars in total. It is isolated and you drive through some residential areas to get to the park.

We could see the reef on the right side of the beach and it looked very shallow. There is a lifeguard station on the beach and I asked the guard about the snorkeling and he said the right side is where the reef is but the tides were low and it could be shallow.

we put on our gear and it was not worth the effort. The water was very shallow and parts almost un-swimmable for snorkeling as too shallow.

The views of the mountains are great on this beach and they do have rest rooms. The centre and left part of the beach looked good for swimming with a low surf.

If you are looking for some piece and quiet and chilling, this would be a beach to visit. A few hours would be enough.

Big beach, mostly vacant
Jan 2019 • Couples
We stopped by in January to check out this beach. Had a bit of trouble finding it and also finding a place to park. Ended up at Kumu Camp so parked there. Short walk to the beach. Was too rough to swim so we sat on a log and had our lunch and watched the locals driving their vehicles on the sand.
