    Don’t pay!
The Luau was nice but we paid way too much for others to just walk up and watch for free or sit on their balcony and watch for free. If you consider the amount of people who were watching for free, the Resort should just make it free for everyone. The food was good but again, we paid over $1,300 for seven people and the free loaders got everything but the food. Never again! Not recommending that you pay.
Aloha darkchocchild, and thank you for taking the time to share your Luau experience. On behalf of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, please accept our apologies for the challenges you experienced. All posts are reviewed to see where we can improve, so rest assured your feedback is very important to us. Once again, please accept our apology, thank you for the review and we are glad that you enjoyed the actual Luau food and performances.

    Great time
We enjoyed our evening at the luau! The food was delicious, the entertainment was great. The line for the drinks was long and slow when we got there but they got shorter closer to dinner time. The food line went smoothly and plenty of choices.

    Excellent all around!
We really really enjoyed this event! After reading the recent reviews I was a little worried but I’m so thankful we went. The food was great- and that smoked pig was the highlight! The show was both funny and beautiful to watch. My daughter had fun learning to luau. My husband loved the buffet and open bar. Everyone was so nice too! I highly recommend this show.

    Great luau
Great Luau experience. Our host was funny and had a great personality. We got to see the pig being taken our of the underground emu where it is cooked. Friendly workers & bartenders. The dancers were amazing & it was great to hear about hawaiian stories & be apart of a traditional event. Food was good, nothing amazing, but we all enjoyed our meal.

I researched a lot of luaus on the big island and this one kept coming up as one of the best overall. We sat with a family that visits big island multiple times and said this one was the best they have seen.

Tip: have sunscreen on because they may sit you in the sun at 4:30 and if you’ve already spent all day out and about those last few hours in the sun can be rough. Also sunglasses in case the sun is in your eyes.

We were lucky to get sat at a table in the shade. We did NOT pay for premium seats, but rather paid general admission (still quite pricy) and arrived at 4pm. Get your ticket upstairs and then get in line downstairs. I was concerned there would be a mad rush for tables, but they escorted us to our seats one group at a time in a thoughtful way. That being said, we were off to the side in the front and we requested to be sat centered, but our person assured us it was a great view. It ended up being great that we were in the shade, although I did have to ask a couple to sit down that came and stood in front of us during the performances.

I heard some guests bragging how they had “premium seats”, but I honestly didn’t see too much of a difference from where they were sitting and where we were except for being a bit more centered. If you do general seating, plan on arriving at 4pm so you can get solid seats. The bar opened at 4:45, so it was worth the time waiting anyways so we could enjoy the full cocktail hour with the bar open.

I rated this 4 stars due to the seating set up. Our view may have been like a 4.5 star view, but others in the back felt the need to come walk up towards the front to see and block our view momentarily (or they were hotel guests crashing the party?). Regardless, we had a great experience. The entertainment was as expected, the drinks were better than expected (for being an open bar), and the food was delicious and checked all the boxes of what you’d expect at a luau. This was the most touristy thing we did all week, but we’re glad we saved an evening for this experience.

Good luau, we splurged for the "premium" seating so our kids could be closer to the stage. Premium comes with a lei and a box of cookies for each guest, and you are sitting in the first two rows of tables. Each table is a 10-top, and I only saw four rows total during our show. The premium tables get dismissed to grab food first, so not sure how much is left if you're in the last row.

Food was pretty decent; there was kalua pork, sweet potato, poke, sirloin, fish, poi, bread, salad. First 3 were my favorites, the others were only so so. There was chocolate cake and some sort of cheesecake for dessert, I don't quite recall. I do wish that they had done more of the performance while people were dining, it seemed like there were large gaps of time where we were just sitting around waiting for them to start. But the sunset backdrop was lovely, and the dancers were good. My kids especially loved the fire dancer and digging up the imu.

I still think the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui was better, but this one was still good.

In fairness I am a foodie who wanted to attend a Luau for traditional pig roasted in the ground and some Hawaiian fixings. We asked the concierge if this fit the bill and we were assured that yes the pig was roasted all day in the ground and unveiled for dinner. This was in fact the case, yet what we didn't ask is would we actually be eating any of this pig. Answer- heck no that was devoured by the front 3-4 tables that had some gold level tickets (hence the good food reviews here). The commoners with $200 per plate dinners got mushy crock pot shredded pork that was likely cooked earlier that week and (as others have indicated) was very salty. The sides were nothing great and the booze was a long wait for an anemic one shot well drink. I actually went back to my room and made blender drinks for the show. The dessert was cheap pan cakes cut into pieces and served on little paper plates. The whole deal was 2 star at best which is really to bad as I thought the show, the host, the band, and the dancers were all pretty good. The guy juggling fire at the end was great. Advise-go to the back of the pool area around 7 pm on Luau night turn a chair around and watch the show. Then take the $800 you saved on your family of 4 and have a 5 star dinner with a bunch of drinks and an uber ride home. Nuf said.

I read many reviews before booking this luau and, based on what i read, I almost cancelled my reservation. I am SO glad I didn't. After experiencing this for myself, I am finding it hard to understand the complaints. More than that, I think anyone who had a negative experience is a miserable person with expectations that can never be met. Let me explain....

We splurged for the premium seating, which was definitely worth it. We had a front row seat and were treated to a lei greeting (which I found beyond delightful). The ambience of this place is unmatched. the staff is super friendly. the drinks were generous and tasty, especially for an open bar situation. Was the food spectacular? No, not really...but it was tasty enough and I don't go to a luau expecting world class cuisine.

The show was absolutely spectacular. I don't know how you can sit there, during that amazing sunset, under a blanket of stars, sipping a mai tai, watching beautiful people perform dances of their native culture and not be blown away. My husband, me and my 2 sons (ages 15 and 12) had an incredible evening - one we'll never forget. Ignore these miserable reviewers who complain about everything from the food to the fact that you could watch from the pool. They're missing out on the entire experience. Worth every penny - I can't wait to go back.

We went to the Laua at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott. The resort was amazing and the food was great. Open bar from 4-7 and several opportunities to visit the buffet line. The show is on the smaller side with about 6 dancers in total but the traditional pig preparation was neat to see and it is quite the scenic spot.

I'll start by saying that everyone has a different perspective. For reference, we travel a lot and have seen numerous entertainment shows at different resorts. The show was OK. The setting was lovely and our table was close to stage (we had premium seats). The host was entertaining and dancers did a good job. However, it was just average. For those who haven't seen many shows, this may seem great. As for the food, it was also subpar. The different kinds of pork and fish were all over-cooked to an extremely dry texture. There were 7 of us in our party and everyone had the same comment about over-dried meat and fish. The cocktails were good. Overall, we all had a good time, the kids enjoyed themselves. We made the best of it.

I have been to 5 luau’s over my lifetime and this one at Sunset Beach was by far the best we have ever attended. From the organized check in, to the open bar, the outstanding food and then a blow you away performance by the dancers and entertainers. The fire show was one of the most incredible spectacles I have ever seen in person, performed by a two time world champion in this activity. I can see why. Truly spectacular dancers, performers and MC. I was hesitant at first because of the price, but at the end of the day we were very pleased with the event from beginning to end.

We loved the food and the service was great. However the show was very very basic and the stage was super small and low.
Scenery was nice.
This was our 6th luau and while we lived the food, we would absolutely not recommend it due to the poor entertainment value.

I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this event. We paid for premiere seating, which included a gorgeous, fresh lei when we arrived as well as a box of delicious lilikoi shortbread. The mai tais were yummy. The dancers and musicians were top-notch, and I liked the way they spaced out the program over the evening. The buffet was delicious and I'm glad I got to try some local food. The hotel is absolutely stunning and was decorated gorgeously for the holidays. What a great night with my sister, on what would have been our mom's 80th birthday (insert heart shape here).

Phenomenal luau! Recommend for all ages! We took our almost 2 year old and sat front row. He loved the entire show except for one dance that had some loud chatting (we walked away for that performance and he was begging to come back to watch more). But honestly we were shocked and happy he enjoyed the show plus the buffet as much as he did as he gets a little nervous with loud sounds.

As adults we loved the history we learned about hula dancing, the fire dancer was amazing and the food was delicious. We ate until we were stuffed!

My husband was called on stage to dance which was hilarious and everyone at our table were extremely friendly. It seemed like everyone in the crowd was there for a good time and the performers were amazing at what they do.
Plus they were so kind to chat and take photos with everyone after the show was over. They also were so kind to check in with our little guy post show.

Highly recommend attending even if you aren’t staying at the hotel!
