If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Erik was absolutely amazing, he answered all of our questions for 6 hours, going from geology, to physics, and sprinkling Hawaïan culture here and there! Honestly, he was so incredibly knowledgeable, if you are curious about Hawaï, volcanoes, or any subject in between, this is the tour for you! I can’t recommend this tour enough, Erik took us all around the park, making sure we hit the most busy locations at the right times so we would not be bothered by anyone else, I could not have hoped for a better experience!! Thank you for this wonderful moment! Ps: as if all of that was not enough, Erik went above and beyond and send us an email after we were done with the trip to give us recommendations to visit on the island, and they were equally amazing to the tour!

This tour was the highlight of my trip! Was not sure what to expect from the 6 hour tour, but our guide, Jay, made this experience truly extraordinary. His knowledge and experience provided me and my friend with a one-of-a-kind tour. Jay was very respectful of local traditions and sacred lands and when he chanted at the crater, E Hō Mai, for permission to enter, I actually cried because I was so moved. Visiting the Big Island was a bucket list item for me, and Jay was the cherry on the top of this visit. Our visits to the crater and petroglyphs gave me and my friend an education that was incredibly insightful and interesting. When we visited the sea arch, I actually gasped at the beauty. Jay made the tour personal and it felt like we were visiting with an old friend. Highly recommend this tour and hope to come back to the Big Island when there is active lava flow - I will definitely use you again! A+++

Malia managed our booking with excellent communications, and brilliantly assigned us Jay as our guide, clearly having considered our wishes and preferences. In turn, Jay was flexible when we re-prioritized our interests same day - we learned his expertise and history with the park, and chose our walks to get the most unique stories pieced together by geologists, rangers and native Hawaiians. Every half-inch layer of the park offers clues, and Jay can tell the layers apart instantly. Jay has integrated the cultural, spiritual and scientific features of the volcano for decades, even to the extent that the rangers experimented with what it would have been like to have an ash mud rain down as you were walking the trade route hundreds of years ago. He designed displays at Jaggar before it was closed by the 2018 damage. He is a long time local who can tell you what the whole 2018+ eruption has been like - and confirm that it was mind-blowing even for the rangers and scientists. Without a doubt our two best days of our long trip were when we engaged a day guide on Kauai and then with Kilauea EcoGuides. Special and magical - mahalo!

Easily 5 star. My family (three teen girls) did the six hour tour with Eric. It was one of those tours that you consider yourself lucky to have found. It was a highlight of our Big Island stay. Eric is incredibly knowledgeable about not only all things volcano but also Hawaiian history, culture and even great restaurants and things to do. He and his wife were very helpful in offering suggestions for after our tour. He was engaging with our teens and found many ways to make it interesting for them. We wondered if six hours would be too long but it wasn't. There was some walking but it was a reasonable amount. We drove to a few spots and that breaks up the 6 hours as well. Highly recommended!!!!

We did the 6 hour private tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park by Kilauea EcoGuides. Prior to our Big Island vacation, I was not sure if we really needed to get a guided tour of Volcanoes National Park. However, after doing the tour, I indeed feel that it was 100% worth doing, based on our excellent tour by Kilauea EcoGuides, which is a small family run tour company. We had the lead tour guide, Erik Storm. Erik arranged that we meet outside the Volcano House hotel which is just inside the park, near the visitors center. Our group was composed of 2 families. Things worked out very well with the tour with the current COVID guidelines which require masks indoors. What we did was drive in our own vehicle, and follow Erik in his vehicle from stop to stop. So each family was in 1 vehicle. It seems that Erik can customize the tour based on how much walking and hiking the groups wants to do, and how strenuous of hikes. We told him that light hikes were fine, nothing too steep and were fine with around 5 miles of walking, and so he customized it into a series of light hikes over 5-6 hours, driving from stop to stop. The hikes were mild and not strenuous. We had lunch and snacks in the car as we went from stop to stop. As per current COVID rules, we had to wear a mask whenever stopping into a restroom or visitor center, but during the hiking and walking, were comfortable outdoors without masks on. We could slow down and take some breaks as we desired. We drove in from our hotel in sunny and hot Kohala coast in shorts and t shirts and were not prepared for the cooler and foggy/drizzly weather of the national park. With that weather in the AM, especially the drizzle, it was a bit chilly, but Erik saved us - he had disposable ponchos for us to use, which did the trick! We then started the tour and by the early afternoon the sun was out and ponchos not needed. Erik took us to the key "bucket list" stop offs in the park. The great part is that he has a geology college education, deep knowledge into Hawaiian culture and language, and just loads of knowledge about the volcanos, plants, animals, geology, culture and the island in general! He is a self professed "rock nerd" and my 17 year old son really liked this and enjoyed almost constant questions and answers as we went around the tour. The amount of interesting info that we learned, scientific and otherwise, is what makes this truly a "must do" activity. I am so glad we did a tour with an experienced guide. We learned about the science and chemistry of the types of lava, the steam vents, and the sulfur vents. It really was 5-6 hours of very interesting education! In addition to the key "bucket list" stop off points, Erik knows of some lesser known spots where you can catch some great views, away from the usual crowds at the popular spots listed in the tour books. This was also a big plus to see some of these "secret spots". We ended the tour back at the visitor center area and Erik then departed, giving us some great suggestions for dinner. 100% recommended tour!!!
