I have taken eco tours around the world. This is probably one of the finest. Of course Kilauea Volcano is an amazing place. However, this company gives more than a standard tour covering the same subjects any other tour company would. Erik, the owner, was extraordinarily knowledgeable about the geology, history, and culture of Kilauea, and really very good at communicating his own love of this place. He was responsive to all questions, and enthusiastic about sharing a wealth and depth of knowledge that lifted our 3-hours together into a memorable experience that we will always remember. It’s well worth the additional expense of avoiding a cookie cutter large group tour for this personalized tour of a fantastic and unique place. And Erik will recommend good local restaurants as well!

The Kilauea tour with Erik & Justin was the most memorable experience in our 2 week trip to Hawaii. Volcanoes National Park is a special place on the planet and 3 hours with them was unforgettable. Erik seemed to know almost everything about Kilauea (Justin knew the rest) and they educated us in the friendliest, most enjoyable way. In addition to learning about the history, geology, flora , fauna, local restaurants and even the Hawaiian Green turtle beach on the way back to Kona, we appreciated the opportunity to spend time with genuinely great people.

Our guide/ owner Eric was simply amazing! We appreciated his breadth and depth of knowledge not only about the volcano but the flora and fauna- and also his recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area!! Eric also pointed out the best viewing area for a night observation of the volcano glow. He went above and beyond our expectations. The way he presented information was easily understood and he also used visual representations as demonstration. You could tell he loved what he does and is invested in teaching others about his beloved island. We really couldn’t have asked for a better, self described “Rock nerd!” We look forward to seeing him on the upcoming National Geographic documentary about the volcano!!

Aloha Linda H! Thank you very much for your review of your private tour. As you can tell Erik, and all of our guides, love to share the beauty of Kilauea with our guests. And we always love working with film crews! Navigating the eruption viewings here can be tricky but our guides do love to share the more isolated locations to see the eruption activity far from the lines and crowds. Mahalo for your recommendation!

olcanoes National Park is a special place ... and it was made more special by Jay! What an amazing experience to be educated AND entertained by a true expert. That expertise, by the way, comes from him having been a career Park Ranger, with his last assignment at this very park! Just a wonderful bonus. Jay met us at 5.15 AM and walked with us to the viewing area for the erupting Halemaumau crater. Along the way he provided us detailed yet understandable information about the geology and topography of the locale. After the volcano, Jay introduced us to the vast world of Hawai'i's unique botany at the crater near the Thurston Lava Tube, again receiving a lot of information and insight to the history of the place. We ended up with a visit to the Bird Park outside the national park, and were lucky enough to see a red-tailed hawk (called an Io) wheeling above is with its distinctive cry. Jay enlivened our learning with pictures and even a couple of specially crafted leis he had made himself. Finally, we truly appreciated Jay's commitment to respecting Hawaiian culture. He chanted special incantations before coming to the volcano and the lava tube, as per local tradition where we ask the gods to "come to us" (my poor translation). All in all an excellent morning spent in the company of a true master. Thank you Jay!

Aloha RPKumar and thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your private tour with Jay! While most of our tours are conducted during the day, we are always happy to do our best to accommodate requests to explore the volcano at sunrise or sunset. All of our guides have a deep connection to this place and the cultural dynamics of the area are very important to us. The fact that Jay was able to show you that connection is great to hear, mahalo for your recommendation!

Five stars don't do justice to how amazing this tour was. Erik, the tour guide, was a delight. He knows EVERYTHING about the volcano and took the time to explain and communicate to us all his knowledge. He even gave us tips on where to get delicious Hawaiian food. And guess what? He was absolutely right! Honestly, this tour was one of the highlights of our first trip to Hawaii. If you are hesitant about booking it, do it! I promise you won't regret it.

Aloha Gri O and thank you for your review! All of our guides prefer to take time while out in the field, as opposed to rushing around to several locations, so we are happy to hear that you enjoyed that aspect of your private tour. And we are always happy to make recommendations on the best places to eat here on the Big Island. We appreciate your recommendation very much, mahalo!
