We visited the Orchid garden. They have an fantastic range of orchids of all sizes and colors. Unfortunately we were not able to buy any as they would not be allowed int NZ.

I just love the place. Seeing all the tropical orchids and other plants is what I enjoy about Hawaii. It's on the way up to the volcano park and a must see in my opinion. Kind of hard to bring an orchid home but you can if you are fanatical enough.

This was once a large beautiful orchid store that you could freely browse, giving you the option to look at and buy gorgeous orchids and other tropical plants. Now they cut down the size of the store by 2/3rd and charge you $5/person to look around. Worse, they market it as an "orchid maze", which is actually no maze at... More

A great place to stop if you love flowers, gardening, or photography. Every color, size, and shape of orchid imaginable, including some unique species created by the owner. The staff is friendly and helpful.

when we went to Akatsuka orchid gardens, there was a orchid maze set up. They showcased a $20,000 orchid in full bloom and the different stages of an orchid amongst the many different types of varieties they breed. If you like orchids or plants in general I would say this might be high on the list when you visit Hilo.

If you love flowers and orchids this is the place to stop. They have numerous different orchids and the show you how the orchids are grown from seeds to plant. We did the orchid maze, you have to pay for it but if you are already there its worth it to see all the different flowers.

The staff was very helpful in showing varieties that would grow best for our area of the US. They explained about care and their website has great references for the gardener. Prices were very reasonable for what we are used to. Due to extra restrictions by Arizona's agriculture department, a minimum purchase is required, so we were unable to bring... More
