We took a lava boat tour out of Hilo the other morning. Although I became violently seasick (even after Dramamine) my husband very much enjoyed the tour. We got closer to the lava than we expected. Also we had heard the guide gives back to...More

There are two ways to see the destructive lava flows on Hawaii's Big Island now: helicopter or boat. I recommend doing both and recommend taking Kalapana Cultural Tours by boat to see the new land being created on Hawaii's east coast. The owners/staff are lava...More

We took their guided bike and hike tour. I would HIGHLY recommend a guided tour. I don't know how people were doing this without a guide, but some did. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area and also very clear about how to be...More

Visited in late February. Chose the self-guided tour with three of us renting bikes for the rather short trek to the beginning of the lava hike and two of us taking the shuttle to same location. The bikes were a little rough looking, but did...More

Our hotel recommended these guys, they are locals from the area where the lava destroyed the cities and everything around. Family owned business, very simple, but very nice people! Fair price as well. The guide was really good to adjust the tour for the group’s...More

Please do not come to the Big Island, especially to the volcanos, without waking up at 3:15 am to go hiking with Jaci into the erupting lava fields. It's a truly other-worldly experience, from the pitch-black journey over miles of old flows, the orange-red glow...More
