What an amazing adventure filled experience- would recommend to anyone. Such a great way to learn about Hawaiian culture, geology, and hang out with some A+ tour guides (I'm talking about you, Ikaika and Selma K.!)! The lava was unreal to see live, like nothing you will ever experience elsewhere. A wonderful way to get outdoors and experience what the... More

We had a great trip to the lava fields with Ikaika, a great guy and guide. Seeing flowing lava is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

This was the most incredible tour, and a definite highlight from our trip. It was an amazing experience to get so up close to the lava flow. Even just hiking over the lava rock to the flow was worth the trip. I highly recommend this trip, Ikaika is the best tour guide, he let us stay for as long as... More

What an amazing early morning hike to get ones blood pumping and heart soaring! Our guides were professional, knowledgable, and full of ALOHA. They know the land, the history, and the culture behind the volcanic flows which made a fairly long hike turn into a beautiful stroll along glistening lava with the sun rising behind us. We were truly lava... More

We had an excellent time with at Kalapana Cultural Tours. We saw many different locations of lava flow, learned about Hawaii, volcano's, and the Hawaiian culture. This was a significant part of our vacation and possibly my favorite.

Highly recommended. Knowledgeable guides, great experience to see the lava dropping into the sea and very close from land. The lava is on private land and this company is managed by the family members. Other tours are not allowed to go there (but some do illegaly, apparently). There's a lot of Information shared by the guides and they are really... More

This is one hot tour, literally. This is about a 6 or 7 hour tour/hike. It started off about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The length depends on where the lava is flowing, it changes from time to time. We started off with a very nice afternoon hike. Your walking on hardened lava the whole time, it's a rough surface,... More

We took this tour January 27th, 2014 - two great young men took us on a boat tour, explaining the history of the area, showing us lots of waterfalls and geological features and then we went whale watching. A humpback calf made a breaching show for 10 minutes at least! We did see a few other whales in the area... More

Recently visited the big Island, Hilo, and the absolute best part of our visit was the whale watching tour with Kalapana cultural tours. The owner, our captain, is a native Hawaiian along with his crew members. This tour was not only wonderful for the whale sightings and the extraordinary effort made to give us the best experience, it was great... More
