It was a gorgeous day to exploring Pahoa, took us about 2 hours driving from Kona, but totally worth the trip. This is our very first visit to the Maku'u Farmer's Market, arrived after 12:30PM, paid $1 to park the car in the parking area. What a fun day to walk around to see many different things and talk to... More

For health nuts and local culture lovers of Hawaii .... This is just special. I used to come here for all my juicing needs - when I worked at Gerson healing center in Kapoho... This is a health and produce lovers heaven!

If you are anywhere near Pahoa or Keaau on any given Sunday, then you should go to the Makuu Farmer's Market (or MFM as the locals call it). Diversity of food, crafts, plants, jewelry and music abound and admission is only the $1 parking fee.

Such a wonderful way to get a sense of the community as a tourist! Great people watching, wonderful food, just excellent! We got there at 9:00am and parking was already pretty nuts -- recommended to go early, bring cash, and go with the flow!

A great Sunday market with great people watching and food vendors Live music too. If you like Reuben's you can find great ones there- as well as green papaya salad.

We stopped by the Maku'u Farmer's Market on our way home to Kona after a weekend in HIlo. We had been there about five years ago and remembered that there were great food booths for us to grab some lunch. After wandering around the various food booths, we decided on our favorites: the Peruvian Tamale plate and the Crepe Lady... More

To be honest, this was one of the best parts of our trip. We loved it. It was really fun. Plenty of vendors and lots of locals to chat with. Really good food ordered to eat and groceries for the week. The green papaya salad was the highlight. It was so tasty. Also you can get raw coconuts there as... More
