My favorite activity on the big island. This isn't for everyone. Recommend $20 shuttle run by the locals. This is an off road 4X4 trip. If your going to walk take plenty of water and hiking boots. The color of the sand has faded in...More

My wife and I decided to hike the 2.5 miles to the beach. It wasn't really fun as the trails are beaten up by the trucks that are shuttling visitors illegally(I'll get to that in a sec), and the wind is pretty strong coming from...More

The Green Sand Beach will probably lift your creative spirit and try your adventurous soul leaving you dirty, hot, and in need of a chiropractic treatment. We drove down to the Green Sand Beach because we had access to an old, beat up 4x4 SUV....More

Southernmost point in the USA. WOW. Long drive from town then awhile in a 4X4. Ride provided by locals do $20. Money well spent. Long hike otherwise. Green sand is cool as well. Worth it.

Most beautiful place, that you have to visit when on hawaii big island. Wild and untouched area.No shops/restaurants nearby. There's a big blow hole for some excitement. Take a shuttle to green sand beach(3 miles gravel road)where there's actual green sand!!

Have been here once before. Came with my 9 month old who I carried and my husband carried our 3 year old. Easy walk if you are wearing proper shoes. So many people trying to walk in sandals. No! Also, do not be stupid and...More

It is a isolated beach far from any access road. The sand has a green tint, but traveling to that beach is a pain if you are a fancy traveler. The terrain is absolutely rugged. Locals ferry you in their 4WD. but the ride is...More

Yes, the hike was long. (approx 6 miles both ways) Yes, it wasn't marked. (Alleluia there weren't signs to mar the stunning landscape). Yes, it was hot. (you're in Hawaii folks) Yes, the green sand wasn't bright neon green or some ungodly color! (on the...More

Definitely an adventure but one I’d do again in a heartbeat. The beach is breathtaking, a gorgeous glittery greenish gold. The day we went was extremely windy and the sand pelted us so hard it was a little painful! Like many others we took advantage...More

Never having seen green sand before, this spot was on our must-see list for our first trip to Hawai'i. We drove down from Volcano, stopping at Punalu'u Black Sand Beach (another unique color for us - saw 3 sea turtles!) along the way. Upon arriving,...More

They will approach you on the parking area. I think the hike itself added to the experience though and I wouldn't pay for the ride personally. I would suggest being sunscreens up as it's very windy and you don't realize... More

When we were there, it was moderately rough. My wife is a competitive master's swimmer, and she refused to go in. People think Hawaii is a theme park. #1 cause of death for tourists is drowning. You couldn't pay me to go... More
