About
Located on 24 beautiful acres in Mountain View, midway between Hilo and Volcanoes National Park, stands our farm, roasting building and retail sales facility. Come take a full tour of the farm (aprox. 1.5 hours) or a mini tour (aprox. 20 minutes) in our roasting room. Either way, it's fun for the whole family and you'll learn a lot about coffee, farming and even a little history. Kids won't even know they're learning because it's so much fun. Our hours are: Tuesday - Saturday 8:00am - 4:30pm. If you're here on a Saturday, be sure and visit our small farmers' market with big aloha, where you'll find some real treasures, great produce, a wonderful breakfast and some great local music. It truly is Mountain View's Favorite Gathering Place. Every Saturday from 9:00am until 2:00pm. We'd love to meet you!

We stopped at the mill as part of another tour. I sampled the PeaBerry. I think from Java Estate Pancoer. Loved it! So smooth. I had a pound of it shipped back to Florida and I wish I would of purchased more. I was happy to dust off my old drip coffee maker and brew a pot when it arrived. OMG...one of the best coffees I've ever tasted! My friends think so too and they are not happy that I'm not sharing. Even better...their prices! This is great local coffee at a good priced. Thank you!

Not just coffee here, they actually have a farm that grows things. They have free-range chickens running around for your pleasure. Jeanette gives a great presentation on the coffee growing and processing process, along with telling everyone about how the farm is green sustainable through solar power and composting, along with rainwater collection. You get plenty of free samples as well at the store and on her tour, as well as the opportunity to have your items shipped home right away after you purchase them. What a pleasure to meet Jeanette and her crew. The Hilo Coffee Mill is worth the visit!

I stopped here as part of a tour with Island Wide Family Tours (take that tour!). The mill served delicious samples of unusual, local products and had a great coffee bar. I bought some delicious mac nut butter to bring home! A fun stop! Also, this is accessible and has restrooms.

The lady was very nice but there wasn’t much to see. They currently are not producing their own coffee so when you ‘go to see’ the plants - they have not had anything done to them since COVID started. It’s just a Skelton left of what they use to do. The tour was very informational and friendly , but could have been done in less than an hour instead of two hours. I’m sure this place was once shiny and new, but COVID has really seemed to hurt them. We didn’t do any tea tasting and only tasted two small cups of coffee at the end. The info provided for the tour doesn’t line up with what the tour actually is now. Again, super nice staff, but not what we expected the tour would be from the description.

I was just here. The thin, average-height woman working inside the indoor shop on the left (who I assume was the owner or manager) was very rude and yelled at me for "looking around too suspiciously" (like what does this even MEAN?) and told me to leave. The outside workers were friendly enough though who wants an experience like this while on vacation when there are so many other coffee farms one can tour on the Big Island that are friendly, welcoming, have better prices, let you sample numerous coffees for free and, frankly, have nicer and more aesthetic coffee farms--some even with free tours!!?

My family and I were visiting the area over Christmas holiday. We stopped at the Hilo Coffee Mill on one of our daily outings, and asked about a tour. We were told that tours were only given to the bus tours and we could look around if we wanted to. We were made very uncomfortable while we were in the cafe/store to buy some ice cream and lattes. We definitely will drive to Kona next time for some aloha and coffee!

We had been at Volcano National park and were really wanting/needed some coffee. My husband remembered passing Hilo Coffee Mill on the way to the park so we were planning to stop in and refresh ourselves with some local coffee. While ordering our drinks a woman asked us if we would like a free tour, she said it would only take 10 minutes. But seriously, we wanted our coffee and other drinks. She took us next door for the tour, which was really just explaining about coffee beans and how they harvest their coffee. The tour included walking from where my coffee was not being made to where it was probably packaged. I found myself staring at the pictures on the wall not believing we still had many pics to get through before it was over. For me, the information was slanted toward why we should buy Hilo coffee instead of anyone elses. Whatever, I was counting the minutes until I could drink what I ordered and was getting a severe headache from the very strong smell of roasting coffee. After about at least 20 very long minutes the woman promised us the best cup of coffee we have ever tasted and I was definitely ready, passed ready. I imagined when we went back into the shop where we ordered our drinks they would be waiting! I was so needing my afternoon cup. But no, they were taking someone elses order. We still had to wait. So, by now I was perturbed. I got my drink first, since it was just an Americano. I sat down, alone cleared my mind to experience the best cup of coffee of my life...deep sigh. Not even close and by then I had a raging headache. My husband and mother in law were shopping while still waiting on their drinks. They picked up a couple of bags of beans. The same lady who gave us the tour said she could grind he beans for us. I told them I wanted my ground to espresso grind and she proceeded to school me on my coffee pot and what type of grind I should get. I repeated, "espresso grind." I got all the way back home, went to have my cup of Hilo coffee and yep, I know you guessed it, its course drip grind...NOT what I asked for. $20 bag of coffee, repeated the grind request 2x and she felt it necessary to grind it the way she felt necessary, not what I requested. I was so unhappy. Smoothies were made with syrup, not fresh fruit...bummer, no Splenda for my Americano. High Pressure saleswoman and withholding coffee until after our tour really set me off. I have waited 2 weeks for my anger to reside, but yesterday when I opened the bag of coffee that she decided to grind a way other than I requested just set me off! Too bad. I guess it's worth stopping in if you need it. I looked for coffee in other places along the way. I was ready to have a blissful experience that she spoke of. It just did not happen, for any of the 6 of us.

Aloha Shawn,
I sincerely apologize for your disappointing experience at our Mill. We hope you'll be open to allowing us an opportunity to make it right.
I'm sure the Staff member who helped you was wanting to make you got the proper grind for your coffee maker. However, we are happy to send you the same coffee you purchased and with the espresso grind you originally requested. Please let us know where you would like it shipped.
Also, I agree with you that your drinks should have been ready when your tour was finished. I apologize you received the impressions that we were "withholding" your drinks until the tour was over. Unfortunately, our barista did not ask for extra help to ensure your drinks were ready when you were finished. We will work with our Staff to ensure timely service in the future.
We appreciate that you took the time to give us this honest feedback. We hope to hear from you soon.
Respectfully yours,
Lori Villanueva

This is a small coffee and gift shop in a rural area. Besides the coffee shop there is another small building where it looks like they do packing and talk about the coffee making process. When we walked into the coffee shop we were the only customers there. I saw one employee who seemed disinterested in us. We didn’t see any coffee samples and no one asked if we would like to try any. We left without getting anything.

Aloha! I am so so sorry you felt that you were ignored on your visit to us. That certainly isn't the experience we train our team to give. Please accept my sincere apology. I appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback, and while it isn't what we hope for, we do take these criticisms seriously and use them to improve our service. Would you please send me an email (jeanette@hilocoffeemill.com) to detail your visit (date, time) so I have a better idea on where to focus my training efforts. We are a small business and every customer counts. Again, I'm so sorry. How can I make it up to you?

Aloha Karen,
I am so sorry to hear about your less than expected experience with us. Can you please give me more details? We always want to improve and your feedback is important.
We always have coffee to sample. Can you give me the details on your comment? Was it before opening, or after closing? Did you ask for a sample and were refused? What was the reason given?
What questions did you ask of the team members that weren’t answered to your satisfaction? I need to know what wasn’t answered so I can address that in more training.
As you can see, we take your comments seriously. I do want to make it up to you, and would like to talk with you personally. Please call the store at 808-968-1333 and leave a call back number for me.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your disappointing experience with us. We strive for excellence in all aspects of our business, and we fell short with you. But we will learn and continue to get better, with your help. Please call me.

We were on our way to our vacation rental and stopped here to get some fresh coffee for our stay. We got great coffee and so much more. The wasabi macadamia nuts were amazing so we bought a bag (great with some local beer!) then we sampled other goodies, tried all the coffees and finished up with a coffee milkshake. They were very accommodating and ground half our coffee for us to enjoy while vacationing and left half as whole bean so we can grind it at home. We learned about coffee production in Hawaii and got some great tips about things to see and do. Easy to find, so stop by and enjoy.

Aloha Lisa! Mahalo for your inquiry, and I’m sorry that you were unable to find the tours in our website. There is actually a tab on the left side column labeled ‘Farm Tours’. If that doesn’t get you to the tour section, you can always use the search box.
The short answer is Yes and No. we offer a short 10-15 minute presentation on processing which is complimentary. A more in depth walk around the farm takes up to 2 hours and must be scheduled (on line or by phone) at least 24 hours in advance, so we have the proper personnel available. Cost varies depending on the number of people.
I hope this helps. For more information please call us or try searching the website again. We are here to help!
