About
The modest Fuku-Bonsai Cultural Center is co-sponsored by Fuku-Bonsai Inc. ( a working bonsai nursery who acts like a "B-Corp" and invites visitors who enjoy talking with our staff) and the 501(3)(c) Mid-Pacific Bonsai Foundation (whose volunteers assist with maintaining the collections and grounds and participate in the educational activities). The varied collection include extensive educational exhibits. The sales area allows selection of certified True Indoor Bonsai(tm) to be shipped to all parts of the US. Beginner, intermediate, or advanced workshops are often cited as the "high-lights" of a Hawaiian vacation and while we do not do any amount of advertising, most of our sales and visitors are repeat or by word of mouth as Fuku-Bonsai began in 1972 and have published over 100 articles in national and international bonsai magazines. Come discover the beauty of bonsai, the serenity of nature, and the Spirit of Hawaii!

Amazing bonsai
Aug 2018 • Couples
So many awesome bonsai, and so much good information. I wish I had allowed time for a class.... when we were approaching I really wasn't sure what to expect as you pass through what looks like a field of forgoten bonsai, but the bonsai inside were amazing tropical bonsai and David was so ready to tell us all about how to grow and plant up our own bonsai- start to finish.

Aloha and mahalo for your review. As a bonsai fanatic, I am happy to share what I know and I'm still a "student" too! We're trying to copy nature in creating our trees --- rampant growth followed by severe dramatic cut-back and repeated at random intervals like the accidents of nature that produce the finest historic bonsai. That's how our best trees develop character. It's kind of a "controlled benigne neglect" way of training and it works! But trees in training appear messy until they reach refinement stage. Mahalo! ~~~David

Jaw Dropping Bonsai!
Jun 2018 • Couples
We visited in June. You have to drive down a few back roads, and the nursery is not very "orderly", but the bonsai are spectacular! They have a collection of bonsai that is just amazing and inspiring - absolute works of art. They also have some for sale, and the owner, David, is there to answer all your questions. If you plan on spending a while there, bring some bug spray in case the mosquitoes bother you.

Aloha and thank you for your review. There are many types of bonsai and our "True Indoor Bonsai(tm)" uses tropical and Chinese training techniques of rampant growth to build bulk; followed by severe cut-back to develop impressive character. Our bonsai nursery is 45 years old which is old by American standards but just a youngster compared to the older established Japanese bonsai nurseries that are fully established with adequate funding and staffing for magnificent detailed refinement presentations. We are not there yet but are happy to share our knowledge and gearing up for more effective educational activities. Mahalo, ~~~David

Spectacular Bonsai Experience
Feb 2018 • Couples
We love all things Bonsai, but this extensive garden was the best we have ever seen.
The knowledgable staff are so enthusiastic and passionate about their craft. They are more than willing to share their expertise. Many acres devoted to the age old craft.
We were welcomed to come back anytime. It is free. A definiie highlight of our trip.
A little hard to find but well worth the effort, Amazing!

Aloha! Most visitors come with the vision of traditional Japanese temperate climate outdoor bonsai that are magnificent but will not grow well in tropical Hawaii or indoors. So they are surprised and impressed with our house plant bonsai that are trained into "banyan" shapes that feature aerial roots. Dwarf Schefflera create the best banyan bonsai and is our specialty. As a proven durable house plant, it is proving to be the most successful for year-around growing in homes and offices; as well as outdoors when night temperatures are above 55 degrees F. Unlike most other trees trained as bonsai, True indoor Bonsai can be grown almost anywhere as interior heating and air conditioning bring indoor temperatures close to tropical climates. There are no secrets in Hawaiian Bonsai which is now teaching its 5th bonsai generation. Our study group members are making impressive progress and this is easier to understand after seeing the educational exhibits and our collections. Hope you'll have a chance to visit again. Mahalo for your kind review! ~~~David,
