On our arrival, the "self-guided" tour was closed. A nice woman let us taste as much as we liked because there were no tours right then. We purchased many cans from a surly cashier and proceeded to a nearby market for picnic supplies. At the market, the same nuts were substantially cheaper. As a matter of fact, they are even... More

The factory tour is simple and can be seen in 5 minutes. It is located right across the store. It is good to see how they prepare the mac nuts. Just driving thru the property is like going back to the old hawaii days 100 years ago. I bought over $200 worth of chocolates and nuts. Don't be cheap and... More

Yum yum yum. The quick self guided tour smells sooooo good. Watching the small number of people running the factory was interesting. Awesome gift shop. With awesome gifts and samples. Really clean and fresh feeling. Was a nice stop a bit from Hilo.

For being the biggest producer of Macadamia nuts in Hawaii this place wasn't all it cracked up to be. The drive through the nut orchards were pretty cool however when you get there you are limited to samples as they hand you 1 at a time. Many others aren't so stingy. Also you would think that if you buy nuts... More

Mauna Loa left us underwhelmed and coming from Queensland Australia, the real home of macadamia nuts, and actually having two trees ourselves, it was nothing new. But I did expect the self-guided tour to be much more informative.

Aloha , Mauna Loa is a nice stop for everyone. You can see how the macadamia nuts are processed. It also has a very nice ice cream parlor in the gift shop.

The three-mile drive from Highway 11 to the visitor's center (Mauna Loa Drive) gives a sense of the expanse of the trees and the plantation as well as showing off an impressive stand of Captain Cook Pines. But what you might want to know about the development of the Macadamia nut industry is just as easily discovered with a bit... More

If you like macadamia nuts, stop by Mauna Loa. It's an easy drive out of Hilo. There's no signage telling you it's coming up - so you have to watch for it. The factory is a couple of miles in. The road goes through the grove. Take your time and read the signs, they tell you how big the grove... More

The tour itself is free and self guided. When we were there, none of the screens that explain the process were working. You basically walk outside of a factory and look into windows where people are working with no explanation as to what is happening. The shop was great - because there were free samples, but in terms of pricing... More
