We stopped off here as part of a tour. The place was busy selling a wide range of different flavoured and covered macadamia nuts. Our favourites were the dark chocolate ones. There is plenty to sample and some good offers to purchase in order to...More

On our arrival, the "self-guided" tour was closed. A nice woman let us taste as much as we liked because there were no tours right then. We purchased many cans from a surly cashier and proceeded to a nearby market for picnic supplies. At the...More

Yum yum yum. The quick self guided tour smells sooooo good. Watching the small number of people running the factory was interesting. Awesome gift shop. With awesome gifts and samples. Really clean and fresh feeling. Was a nice stop a bit from Hilo.

Mauna Loa left us underwhelmed and coming from Queensland Australia, the real home of macadamia nuts, and actually having two trees ourselves, it was nothing new. But I did expect the self-guided tour to be much more informative.

Aloha , Mauna Loa is a nice stop for everyone. You can see how the macadamia nuts are processed. It also has a very nice ice cream parlor in the gift shop.

The three-mile drive from Highway 11 to the visitor's center (Mauna Loa Drive) gives a sense of the expanse of the trees and the plantation as well as showing off an impressive stand of Captain Cook Pines. But what you might want to know about...More

If you like macadamia nuts, stop by Mauna Loa. It's an easy drive out of Hilo. There's no signage telling you it's coming up - so you have to watch for it. The factory is a couple of miles in. The road goes through the...More
