Informative tour given by a passionate owner.
The tour was great! I learned a lot about coffee and the amount of labor that goes into each cup. The owner leads the tours and she is extremely proud of her product. The prices are a bit high ($65 for 8oz), but it's such a small operation and their goal is to be the best coffee available, so it's worth every last penny. This is seriously the best coffee I've ever had. The price means she must pay her people a living wage. If you take the tour, definitely buy some of the coffee before you leave!

Book Ahead and Enjoy. Fabulous, Personal, and Worthwhile Experience.
We visited Hula Daddy for a tour and tasting during a recent cruise to Hawaii, which included a stop in Kona. They were recommended to us and we are VERY glad we visited. I would strongly recommend you make advance reservations, which we did. Ourselves and another couple had reservations, while another arrived right before we left. They were able to pay and join, but I suspect that is the exception rather than the rule, so plan ahead. You won't be sorry.

A Must Do Visit For Coffee Afficianados
While the view IS truly amazing, the actual conversation with the owner, Karen, about the coffee business was the most interesting to me. They grow several varietals of coffee, although most of their business is the Kona Typica. Very generous with her time, and deep, deep knowledge of coffee made this an engrossing visit. And the coffee cupping (tasting) with Laura, the roaster, was marvelous.

    Beautiful view
Very beautiful views of the ocean. Coffee sample was nice. There were other items to buy while there. The front person was busy cleaning up, so we didn’t have much interaction. We did not go on a tour. The road this place is on seems very interesting. Something to check out next time.

    Hurray for Hula Daddy!
My wife is a huge coffee fan, so I booked a tour at Hula Daddy. She loved it, and I did too (even though I'm not a coffee drinker). She went nuts over the quality of the coffee. She got to sample 3 different types, and fell in love with the dark roast. It was fascinating to visit their coffee orchard to pick, peel and taste some coffee beans, and also to view the roasting operation. Excellent experience!

Loved our coffee farm tour! Heather and Laura provided great information about the growing and roasting process. Enjoyed meeting the owners and sampling coffee at the end of tour. Would highly recommend this tour if you are in Kona!

    Excellent!
The tour was very informative with a knowledgeable yet personable tour guide Heather. We also had a chance to meet and directly talk to the master roaster Lauren on site. All in all excellent coffee tour with great sample tasting of their pour over coffees at the end. And of course, their coffee beans are top of the line, having won many awards and accolades over the years globally.

We had seen the Hula Daddy website before our trip and loved their logo enough that my husband and I drove over there one morning just to get t-shirts. A tour was starting as we parked and while sipping coffee in the lanai rockers heard the first 10 minutes or so of the tour being given by the owner. I can't say how the remainder of the tour went, but I can confirm what another reviewer's sentiment that the owner spends an inordinate amount of time humble bragging. The view is great, the visitor center is small but cute, and the coffee was wonderful - but unless you are spending $35 to hear veiled commentary about how affluent the owners are, save your money and do one of the free tours at another local farm.

We stopped in at Hula Daddy Kona Coffee as I had read it offered one of the better tours. Unfortunately, we just missed the beginning of a tour, but the staff was very welcoming and the views from the store were beautiful as the store is a bit up the mountain. We didn’t buy any coffee as the prices were definitely out of our price range ($96 per pound). We were still glad we stopped and we enjoyed the views and the drive up the mountain.

This truly is a family farm with husband and wife running every aspect. They grow a handful of different types of beans on different parcels and pick, wash, roast and package on site.

They have won several international awards with their product and because their house roaster takes copious notes of every batch, they can duplicate the winning formula for us mere humans to buy and brew at home.

We bought one each of a handful of bags and will see how well our notes match theirs.

Glad I picked this coffee farm tour of the 650 coffee farms in Big Island, although I'm sure there are much less than 650 tours available. This was a one of a kind experience, as Hula Daddy has their own q grader, or certified coffee expertise, which we were informed there are only 12 on the whole island. She was a fascinating person, with skills and knowledge you are unlikely to come across again! If you are a coffee fanatic or connoisseur, this is definitely the better coffee tour for you. They distinguish between quality and quantity, and Hula Daddy is on the end of quality over quantity. They explain the subtle technicalities in their coffee farming, that are very unique and insightful of the expertise and craft that goes into creating the most quality coffee. Other tours (I did go on 2 tours) were more general, although just as fun. It depends on what you are looking for! Personally, I prefer the niche knowledge over general information. Our guide and the owner of Hula Daddy, was very personal and amusing. I will say, as a non-coffee fanatic, I personally enjoy cheaper and flavored coffee more than their quality crafted coffee, but to each their own!

We had a great tour with Karen (the farm owner), she really knows her stuff and definitely has an incredible drive to produce the BEST Kona coffee out there. She took us from the plant fields to the roaster to the shipping area, and it is all done by her incredible staff onsite. Highly recommended stop on the Big Island. Thank you so much!

We signed up for the tour which was provided by the owner. She is very dedicated to producing competition grade coffee. We learned a lot about the process from picking to roasting. It's a good overview of how a moderate sized coffee farm works in Kona. There is not a lot of walking on the tour although some of it is outside where the coffee trees are growing. Their hours are limited as their focus is on coffee production more than tourism.

It was great to learn about the process, although you don't get to see any part of it in action. Thought it'd be like a brewery or winery, in that, I would have a tasting of a few different kinds of coffee but that is not the case, only one and that was disappointing. Yes, there is a chocolate covered coffee bean but again you get handed just one. Overall, it's okay but could be so much better. We were a party of 6 and it lasted just about the hour. We stood outside in the same place and listened to the owner talk about how she got started, answered questions of the guests and spoke about how she enters into competitions. The employee who does the roasting, stayed inside. I would've preferred to hear from her because she is the one that ultimately creates the flavors. We also stood inside where the roaster was but again nothing was happening, so we just listened to more. It was not interactive at all other than talking. I would personally check out other coffee tours at other farms and see what else is out there!

Hula Daddy Coffee, hands down, offers an exceptional coffee experience. Our recent tour of their coffee plantation left us in awe of their commitment to quality and passion for their craft. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality. The knowledgeable guides took us through the entire process, from the cultivation of the beans to the meticulous roasting techniques. The aroma that filled the air was simply divine. The highlight was undoubtedly the tasting session, where we savored their signature blends bursting with rich flavors and a smooth finish. Hula Daddy Coffee is a true testament to the artistry and dedication that goes into crafting the perfect cup of joe.

Karen was super welcoming and knowledgeable. Her coffee farm is warm and open, and the tour was very informative and interesting. Seeing the coffee at all stages, from tree to freshly brewed cup, was a treat. I highly recommend visiting this farm for some amazing coffee and knowledge. Their high standards are evident in the way they present and compete with their product. Brewing this coffee at home brings me right back to Hawaii every morning!

Their price is higher than most. No discounts. No specials. No Costco versions. No ads. They only open for 3 hours. Even so, they sell out and you have to get on the waitlist for special batches. Why? They have great coffee - it's the best Kona coffee I have tasted. I tried about 10. Several coffee makers have consistently recommended their coffees. Unsolicited. Also, they have won numerous awards. What’s interesting to me is their story and their 20 year journey to perfected their coffee beans and the roasting process. it's Kaizen at its best. When you visit, you will probably meet Lee and Karen, the owners. Both are down to earth. Super nice people. Read their story on their website. Highly recommend this place.
