What a luscious place to visit. I am the Conservation Artist in Residence next door at Mokupapapa Discovery Center and I spend a day a month painting there every second Saturday. Since I live in Waimea, I don’t get to the Locavore Stoee often, however when working at Mokupapapa, I shop there before AND after. Yummiest best quality most conscious store on the island!! Yay!!!!

Within easy walking distance of the Hilo Farmers’ Market, the friendly Locavore Store ups the ante with an additional selection of local origin fruit, produce, coffee, cheese, meats, other foodstuffs, and gifts. Quality is superb, and the owner/managers are quite knowledgeable and helpful. At the start of our week’s stay in the area, we hit the market for more common offerings (papaya, rambutan, longan) and then move on to Locavore for frankly better quality tomatoes, leafy greens, berries, goat cheese, hummus, and more esoteric items like egg fruit. All when in season, of course. They also offer Big Island Roasters Coffee, the best we’ve found in several trips to the Big Island. This small store is well worth a visit!

Came across this gem while walking along the waterfront. If you want to get some delicious local fruits and healthy items, this is the place! The owner has a passion for eco-friendly, sustainable, local items, and is happy to answer any questions. They have refreshing chilled young coconuts and other healthy snacks, along with some other unique items made or procured locally, including teas, spices, salts, and crafts.

The owners put some thought and energy into decorating this store to feel very comfortable and welcoming. Nice colors and everything very neat and clean. Products are displayed very attractively. If only more shops in Hilo would follow this store's lead and updgrade their own appearance. This is the best place to come to get quality local products. They have packaged items that tourists could bring home as well.
