Good fun and very educational.

We visited a couple years ago, but understand it's still very nice. We thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits, the cultural sensitive throughout, and the excellent films.

There are some good exhibits and staff have information to share. The problem is that there is little signage so that it is not really clear what you are looking, which direction to go, etc.

Our 3 year old son is really into space right now and so we brought him here. He really enjoyed the kids exhibits about the planets. There is a nice video about what its like on the International Space Station (ISS) which was neat to watch. There was a coupon in one of the tourist magazines that gave us 2... More

I visited the centre with a group of older school students. The display/ exhibition part is quite nice with some hands on displays, the highlight of which was a globe which you can project time lapse images on. Overall, though, it is not a big centre. The planetarium show was somewhat spoilt by a very distracting split in the screen.... More

Got to learn more about how the early Polynesians used the stars to navigate in the sea and got some history about Hawaii's volcanoes. Its very educational as well

I've given this astronomy center an average rating, but it really depends upon who is visiting. If you are in 7th grade or beyond, I'd recommend skipping it. There is a section of the center that offers some hands-on attractions about space and Polynesian navigation that youngsters might enjoy. In fact, there appeared to be a field trip of 4th... More

Boy am I glad that I found a 2 for 1 coupon for the Imiloa Astronomy Center. This was one of our must-do's in Hilo and we were very disappointed. The center is on the small side and many of the exhibits seemed rather dated. All the signs were in both English and Hawaiian, which is nice, but there were... More

This was my favourite museum in Hawaii! There was a range of displays, with hands on elements, puzzle pieces, interactive computer screens and artefacts to handle. I loved reading more about Hawaiian myths and traditions, including information about canoe trips where people navigated by the stars and nanotechnologies- I felt that they had tried to broaden the range of information... We were there a day when the planetarium was closed for maintenance but there was more than enough to keep our family entertained. We spent about 3 hours on a week day afternoon and pretty much had the place to ourselves

My wife and I have been members of the center for 10 years. We are never disappointed. We love the laser light show.
