Great place to go if you have an empty growler. There was a constant line of locals rolling through. Also has a very modest gift shop to get a Mehana or Hawai'i Nui trinket or T-shirt. They are also very generous with the sampling - you can try everything if you want. It's just not a very fun atmosphere to... More

The answer is this one. There is also zero ambiance or comfort. You can simply stand in the factory garage and taste a lot of good craft beer, knowing you will have to find a McDonald's, to use their bathroom, and being able only to by canned six packs. A brewery should accommodate its visitors, encourage them to stay and... More

We stumbled on the spot after being disappointed at the Big Island Candy Company. There is a small tasting room with a super friendly lady pulling back the taps. Not only did she tell us so much about the island, she shared some history of the company. She also informed us that Kona Brewing manufactures their beer on the mainland!... More

Called in when picking up the enterprise hire car (across the road). V impressed at the free tasting. Great selection of beers and merchandise. Was much cheaper than on Oahu. The 2 Belgian beers were the best beers of our trip. Gutted we didn't have time to call on the way back for the $4 growler refill.

Hawaii means many things to different people, but few people think of Hawaii as a state with a great beer scene. Upon investigation, however, one discovers that the beer business in the state is growing and one of the better options is Mehana Brewing, located on the Big Island in Hilo. As a beer blogger for the site greatbeernow.com, I’m... More

Mehanas is a great little brewery offering a good variety of beers. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Every now and then, some of the brewers will come in to the tasting room and love talking story on the brewing process. If you are visiting Hilo for a few days, I highly recommend investing in one of their growlers... More

We stopped into this brewery and tasting room on a vacation trip to escape the crowds at the Hilo waterfront. Tasted Mehana and Hawaii Nui brews poured by the brewer himself, and chatted with the locals who came to refill growlers and taste the latest selections. We purchased a growler, there were also singles for purchase, as well as tee-shirts... More

Robert and I visited Mehana yesterday for a tasting. It's 0.3 miles from the airport in Hilo, so it's central and easy to find. The tasting room is very minimalist-there's no place to set. You stand in from of the bar while the hostess pours you small cups of each of their brews. The beers were as good or better... More

Great samples and interesting to see their brewing and canning area. Tasty beer, too! We picked up an assortment of canned beer and a growler to take back to our condo. They have a nice tasting room and gift shop.

I used to drink beer, and we heard we could buy it in big jugs at Mehana. So we stopped by, took the tour, and sure enough, you buy the jug, come back over and over and fill it up. It was very interesting how the brewing process works, and after the tour we got to sample all the different... More
