We did the Hilo Crater Hike and Waterfall tour booked through Norwegian's Pride of America cruise ship. Our tour guide, Marcus, was amazingly professional and knowledgeable about everything on the tour, and any other Hawaii questions we could think to ask. The way he describes KapohoKine's business practices, you can't go wrong with any of their guides and tours. A rainstorm began just as we started to walk up the crater trail. Marcus provided rain ponchos to the few who didn't bring them, and escorted the slowest persons in our group up the trail through a river of water coming down the pathway.

My husband and I visited the Big Island of Hawaii on our honeymoon and participated in the Evening Volcano Explorer. It was an incredible day, especially thanks to our guide Jaclyn (sorry if that's misspelled!). She was funny, so knowledgable, and was flexible based on our group's needs. During this tour we were able to visit a coffee farm, see a black sand beach with sea turtles (honu), try a malasada from the southernmost bakery in the United States, hike cooled volcanic flow and actually see the glow of the active lava lake! It was an awesome way to experience the Big Island and we would definitely recommend for couples, individuals or families!

This all day trip is an investment that is totally worth it! Eric was our guide and picked us up promptly from our resort in the morning. He was a great driver, extremely knowledgeable about Hawai'i and volcanoes, and was a very nice person! He answered all of our questions and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable for the day.

We visited a local Kona coffee farm, the southernmost bakery in the whole US, a black sand beach, and spent half a day at the Volcano National Park visiting an active volcano, walking through a lava tube, and exploring a previous eruption site.

If you want a unique tour of the Big Island that you can't get anywhere else, I can't recommend KapohoKine Adventures enough for your itinerary!

Review of the evening volcano tour-
I’m having a hard time with this review because we honestly had a great time. We felt all of the stops were fun and interesting, and our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The issue won’t the trip boils down to two things. This first is that we were given a “free” hour at the volcanos national park visitors center, but it was closed. We were told to go to the art gallery which was closed, then to the volcano house which was completely booked and wouldn’t let us in anywhere except one gift shop. The other issue is that we specifically booked this excursion because we were very excited to eat at the volcano winery. That is honestly the thing that pushed us over the edge to choose this instead of other excursions. This portion of the tour was cancelled the day before and replaced with deli sandwiches from a grocery store. I know that things change, but replacing a winery dinner and tour with deli sandwiches is not comparable.

I’m conclusion, this was a great trip but not as advertised

Started out with a 8:30am pick up and was traveling with my partner. We ended up with only 6 people in our van that can hold 14, we we had a good chance to get to know each of our fellow travelers. The best part was our guide, Jeannette. She was full of enthusiasm and had a great knowledge of so many Hawaiian history points and very easy to ask questions with. Right up u till the end she was great. You would be lucky to have her as you guild! We drove the island counterclockwise from the Kona area to start and stopped a number of awesome spots. We saw turtles, calderas, huge waterfalls, tropical forest, a chocolate shop! A wonderful wine tasting and lunch break....and so much more.....would recommend to anyone who what’s to see the whole island, and then perhaps go back to a favorite place! (And do tip the drivers, they do a fantastic job and tips are what they work for) Anyway, you will not be disappointed.

It was the most fun we ever had. We were probably older then most on the adventure (48 and 68) and we had a blast. They are very informative and made sure everyone felt comfortable, especially us. We saw some amazing views and we got to see where some of the movies were filmed. However, be aware you will get dirty and possibly wet. Wear dark clothes and gymshoes you don't really care about. Was a great experience.

Best tour we had in Hawaii! We visited Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls in a private van with tour guide Nate. We enjoyed Nate's informative narrative of Hilo and his experiences living there. He was an excellent driver and we felt safe along our way.

The sites were beautiful. At Akaka Falls we walked the trails and learned about the plants that grow there. The Falls were beautiful. We had a snack at the end of the hike.

Then went off to Rainbow Falls which was very different, since you can drive right up to it. Lots of tourist there. The visit was short, but allowed us to view the falls from different viewpoints.

We stopped to see the statue of King Kamehameha and then off to a local hotel to view Hilo from the shore. Time to make a few gifts from the gift shop and have another break. Then back to our ship.

Only 10 members on the tour, which we preferred. A very nice morning with a great guide.

Went on a 6 hour excursion from our cruise ship Koningsdam and Tori was our host. She took us to breathtaking spots with gorgeous views, saw several waterfalls and coastlines. After a stop for malasadas we drove to various spots and picked the best for our supplied lunch. She was knowledgeable and funny. She even teased us with silly "Night Walker" stories. Well informed and pleasant to talk to. She kept us on our toes and made this excursion very memorable, Thanks Tori!

Do this! The guides are amazing. Views of waterfalls are extraordinary!!! Very safe. My kids (age 7 and 9) had a ball. I am not a fan of heights and also loved it. Worth every penny...even in the pouring rain. I recommend a clear waterproof phone pouch wearable around your neck or wrist so you can take videos and photos without worrying about dropping your phone!!!

Our guide JP was so funny and knowledgeable about the island...he really catered to us and made this day so special. Leah, Ona and Kyle made our zipline experience incredible even through some fear - they were hilarious and brave and it made it easy to fly through and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Our badass lady pilot (Sarah I think) was so cool and comfortable flying...we couldn't believe how smooth the ride was. The volcano winery went above and beyond with the tastings and tour...dinner was awesome. What a perfect day
