Absolutely the best tour of a volcano we've ever had. Worth every penny...our captain took us so close we felt the heat - and the boat spent plenty of time at the lava falls so everyone could get the full experience. Don't bother with helicopter tours...this is ten plus times better!

We took two of Lava Ocean Tours tours last week - a sunrise and a sunset. Both were spectacular and for anyone who has an interest in a once in a lifetime experience - give this a try. Not inexpensive but worth it. It looks like no other tour is done as well at this one. You really get up... More

Took the later afternoon tour to see the lave "hose" on Friday 2/3 - the amount of lava you see is, obviously, dependent upon Mother Nature/Pele. You get much closer to the lava flow now than where the roped off walk/bike to sections are. Absolutely worth the price! MAKE SURE YOU ARRIVE EARLY and read all directions closely! The operator... This is something you likely will never see again! I have been talking about it since we got back. You get VERY close to the lava (too close in my opinion). I was a little nervous of how close they got, not sure that is necessary, but it is an awesome sight! Be choosy which lava boat tour you go... More

We live on the Big Island and have hiked to accessible surface lava many times. The recent lava bench collapse cut through the lava tube and exposed a "firehose" stream of lava projecting from the cliff face. The last firehose event lasted only a few days; this firehose event started on New Year's Eve. The price seemed steep, but after... More

We had a good ride out and back to see the lava spewing out of the tube into the water. Really a once in a lifetime experience. We used swellinfo.com to pick our day. Swell was down (1+ foot) and so were the winds (10-15 mph) so just a few whitecaps. Only a little spray and bounce coming back when... More

We arrived at 5AM with many others. After a comprehensive orientation we boarded with about twenty other guests. Boarding was easy accomplished via step ladder on dry land. The vessel was launched and a high speed 35 minute transit brought us to the ocean entry site. Simply spectacular! We loitered at the site taking in all in with plenty of... More

Spent 4 days on the big island, this tour was the one thing we had to do. Booked in advanced had wanted to pay cash when we arrived for the discount but it is billed to your credit card in advanced for Canadians this is a concern because we get a lower rate on refunds. However this adventure was worth... More

We went on a 5 a.m. lava ocean tour and were able to get very close to an active lava spot flowing into the ocean. You can feel the heat and see the power of nature up close. I would recommend this trip.

Captain Shane really knows how to handle the boat. We spent plenty of time within 100 yards of the firehose lava flow. Thanks to Pele & Shane, we had an outstanding trip, I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see flowing lava up close.
