I've always wanted to fly in a helicopter and to see an active volcano. Now I've done both! The staff was amazing and the pilot was so capable he quelled my fear of heights. Though reasonably priced, this was our "splurge." Worth every penny!

Captain Paul did a great job answering questions. One of the high points of our Hawaii trip. Great views of the lava cascading over the cliffs into the sea and direct views into the craters and the smouldering lava, all of which Paul circled several times to ensure everyone had great look-ins. Comfortable, spacious, well air conditioned copter. Highly recommended... More

This is the fourth helicopter tour I've taken and the first with this company. I was completely satisfied. The pilot was knowledgeable and interesting. The ground staff were all very pleasant. I was also pleased that a video DVD of our flight was available for purchase. That has only happened on one other tour I have taken. This tour is... More

Aloha Douglas, Wow, possibly some pilot school is in your future! :) Thank you so much for your positive review. We are glad to hear that about the DVD as well. It's tough to keep up with the times & technology moving so fast. We are doing our best to stay ahead of the game. A hui hou (until we... More

Capt. Rich did a bang up job . He gave a history talk about hilo and the area around hilo. We saw the lava flow and waterfall in the daytime , really nice but at night you can glow and it hitting the ocean

Our pilot was Kyle and everything was perfect for the 4 of us!!! We saw what we expected (except our 9 years old who thought she'll see bubbling lava -even if we told her not to expect that!-)! We liked that Safari respects the safety regulations which are very important to us! The price is really fair (in comparison to... More

Aloha, You have to love the imagination of a child. Molten hot magma was most likely in her mind's eye! ;) Safety has always been our #1 priority; it's as important to us as it is important to you! Thank you so much for taking the time to give us a positive review. We are still a small family operated... More

From all the pictures posted in the tourist brochures we had great expectations for this helicopter ride(our first one) but we were both disappointed. The helicopter seemed quite slow and we would have liked to gone down lower to take a closer look at where the lava was flowing into the sea. The safety briefing was excellent and we had... More

Robbie M, General Manager at Safari Helicopter Tours, responded to this review

Aloha Pam, The National Park recently sent to us their concerns about flying low near the lava where it enters the ocean. In addition, the new FAA Regulation, Part 136 Appendix A, requires all tour helicopters to fly no lower than 500 feet above the ground at site specific areas. The lave flow is within one of these site specific... More

Safari were completely brilliant and the service we got was first rate! The lady who went through our safety briefing (I can't remember her name but it was something like Doreen!) was brilliant, she was so lovely and approachable! And our pilot Kyle was very knowledgable and made a real effort for us all to see the lava flow, which... More

Aloha Chloe, Thank you for your positive review. We are still a small family operated business so we appreciate when our Guests take out the time to do so. It was Doreen that helped you and we are lucky to have her. I will be sure to give our staff in Hilo a bunch of high-fives for excellent service. We... More

BEWARE! Especially if you are staying on the Kona side. I booked a tour for a birthday surprise for my husband on a Sunday. I was very worried due to the tropical storm that had passed by, so I emailed and called them on Saturday and they said it was to early to decide. So on Sunday I received an... More

Dear Janell, This normally is not my style for a response. But it seems to me that you may have been quick on your response here on TripAdvisor. And I only participate in engaging in productive conversations. Yes, you are correct. On Sunday your flight did get cancelled due to residue rains from Tropical Storm Darby. But it is incorrect... Of all the things we opted to do while on vacation, the helicopter tour was our first choice and we were not disappointed. We left from Hilo and toured over the city, waterfalls, over the fuming volcano (awesome) and the beautiful coastline. Time truly flies on this tour. I highly recommend anyone who has never seen Hawaii from this view... More
