Located minutes from downtown Hilo is Rainbow Falls. We visited while in Hilo for the day in port from the cruise ship. The location is nice, but a bit overcrowded with tour buses/visitors. We thought the falls were a bit ordinary to be honest.

There are no shortage of waterfalls to see on the Big Island. I like this one. It is the closest one to Hilo and is easy to drive to it. The parking is free. There is no long hike from the parking lot. And there are lots of good vantage points for photo opportunities.

We took a quick detour to the falls on a booked excursion through Lava Land. Even though the day wasn't beautiful the falls sure were. A quick 5-10 minute stop in the area is good enough to get a great look at the falls.

Easily accessible and a beautiful view from both above and below the falls. I not in good enough shape to take some of the trails or courage to walk out on the edge, but a lot of younger people seemed to be enjoying it.

A nice place to visit. Make sure you climb to the top of the lookout located on the left side. You'll see an smaller wading area. Not too strenuous of a walk. Could be a bit slippery but there are rails to grab onto. To the right is also a nice spot for a 'selfie'.

We were surprised by how close this was within Hilo - drive 4 minutes and park and you're there. At the water's edge - a total of some 50 meters of walkable "frontage" and you could drive away. But if you're inclined to walk up the stairs, you get to the best part. Not the boiling pots - but the... More

Easy access to view the waterfall. Make sure to go to the upper overlook and from there it is a short walk to the Banyan tree. If you want to swim or picnic above the falls, there are a few paths down to the water.

If you like waterfalls, but aren't up for the hike that it often takes to see them, this one is for you. Although not an enormous, drenching waterfall like some (Niagra!), this one is big enough to impress, yet the sight can be absorbed less than twenty meters from your car. It's also less than a five minute drive from... More
