Why is this an attraction?
Mar 2020
I love wind and all renewable energy, but this is not an attraction. First, from my understanding this is private land. Second, there is nothing to do here at the wind farm itself. If the area is the attraction, make that the listing, not a wind farm that you really should not be going near anyways.

If you haven't seen one before its in a beautiful location

They come out of nowhere as you turn the corner on the highway - and it is an illustration of power in the new world- as opposed to the old one. Its not unusual- but it is in an unusual place- but keep going forward to the town of Hawi- which is charming and has surprisingly good galleries and shops.

Interesting because of the location
Apr 2019 • Couples
It is at the end of a very long, narrow but paved road. Turning around is almost impossible. Best to go to the end and then turn around. There is also a very small airport there. Bonus, great view of Maui and the volcano if the weather is clear.

Ok. Same old stuff

Meh it’s a wind farm. Interesting if you’ve never seen one before, but not much. You only see them from the road.
If you are here you MUST go to Keokea Beach. Well worth the minutes to drive and enjoy the power of the water. Bathrooms there, pavilion, picnic tables and a grill! See posting there

Interesting wind farm on the road to the tiny airport
Jan 2019 • Couples
A great source of renewable energy on the hill down to the airport. Only one single engine plane visible at the airport, but there may be one or two more in the small enclosed hangar.

Dropped in as was graciously greeted

Matt, a budding artist and one of the caretakers gave a great unscripted review of what goes on. Plus the setting was spectacular.

harnessing the strong winds
Mar 2018 • Family
Not surprised to catch sight of wind turbines during the drive along the North Kohala Coast. The coast is prone to very gusty, strong winds which is perfect for a wind farm. You can spot the wind turbines from Highway 270 (Mile Marker 20) near the small community of Hawi. The location is on the northern tip of the Big Island. A drive down a road leads to Upolo Airport and to a historic, religious site.

A step in the right direction
Apr 2017 • Couples
You can see about 15 large units, visible from the ocean road on the northern side of the Big Island (North Kohala coast), where the wind seems to blow all the time. Electricity generated from petroleum or coal is expensive on Hawaii, and the use of wind power to generate electricity is certainly a step in the right direction.

They call them windmills here.
Mar 2017 • Friends
Finally a good use for the wind on the windy Kohala coast. This is such a good way to generate energy, and you can observe these "windmills" by taking the road down or even right from the upper road.

Hawi Windmills-clean energy at it's best!
Apr 2016 • Family
Hawi has hundreds of windmills on hills overlooking the ocean on the north side of the Big Island. Very cool to watch...
