Sweet tour
Nov 2021
This was a fantastic tour. We were greeted with tea and macadamia nut tarts! Learned a ton about bee history, conservation and biology. The tour ended with a honey tasting that was a perfect way to end the tour. Highly recommend.

Neat and fun tour!
Oct 2021
This was a really neat and fun tour. The beekeeper was hilarious and clearly loves his job. It's a fantastic learning opportunity, while at the same time getting to taste different types of honey. It's a very short and inexpensive experience that's well worth your time!

Great tour
Sep 2021
I live in Kona and this is a regular activity for when I have guests. Very informative , very professional and Delicious honey. I always have the chili honey on hand for fresh fish or chicken and the cinnamon honey is excellent on toast. This is a fun tour for all ages. Do not hesitate to make it part of your Hawaii activities.

Loved Big Island Bees!
Sep 2021
While the store is full of interesting beekeeping displays, the tour was definitely worth doing! An informative video is followed by a live hive opening with a master beekeeper (which you watch behind a screen). Honey tasting afterward was delicious! Definitely worth a stop!

Great bee education - tasty honey
Jul 2021
We enjoyed our tour of the hives and the information we learned along the way. My husband, who is incredibly scared of bees, was relaxed the entire time. The bees were very chill. While one person called the bee keeper snarky in a previous post - I thought he was funny. I'm from the east coast so I easily get that sense of humor. It lightened the mood and made the bees more approachable.

The honey tasting was fun and we purchased some to bring home. We used the time in the area by also taking a private tour of Greenwell farms and visiting Pu'Uhonua O Honaunau National Park. This made for a full day in the area and a good use of our driving time from Waikoloa/Waimea area

Aloha, Toni, and thank you for visiting and taking the time to write such a marvelous review. We appreciate it very much, as will our staff, especially Joe. It is good to hear your husband was relaxed about our bees. We are always gratified to learn that our venue helps some visitors reduce their fear of bees. We hope you will enjoy your honey and will come to see us again on your next trip to the Big Island. Mahalo, Phil

Great visit with one caveat
Great tour - learned a lot about bees and even saw a Queen and a baby! Honey products delicious.
However the guide - while knowledgeable - was a little too snarky for our taste, especially when talking about the non-danger the bees posed. A few were outside the fenced in area and he kind of belittled our son when he was scared (he is six). Little kids respond better to kindness than sarcasm.

We also appreciate alerting us to your disappointment with the tone of your guide's comments, and apologize we did't do a better job addressing your son's fears. We'll make sure we bring your concerns to the attention of all our staff. Mahalo, Phil

Fun Tour at Big Island Bees
Jun 2021 • Couples
I’m so glad we booked a tour with Big Island Bees! We stopped here as part of our “farms tours day” in Kona and had a great time learning about the bees, different types of honey, and the process of taking care of the bees and collecting honey. The tour consisted of a short informative video and getting to observe the beekeeper behind a screen as she covered a variety of topics about the bees. We also had a chance to taste the different flavors of honey at the end (the macadamia nut blossom was my favorite).

Tips:
- Reserve your spot ahead of time using their website as they only do a few tours a day.
- Bring bug spray or wear long pants if you are sensitive to bug bites like I am. The demonstration bee hives are behind a screen and where you’re standing is covered, but the areas around are grassy.
- Leave extra room in your suitcase as you will likely purchase some honey after the tour!
- Watch the YouTube video on driving directions to their farm (link is in the confirmation email). Google maps got us close but has some wrong turns at the end. Luckily I had watched the video beforehand and knew what landmarks to look for.
- A tour guide from a different tour mentioned that it usually rains in the late afternoon/early evening on Big Island. I recommend booking the first tour here at 10am to lessen the probability of rain.

O Honey!!!!!
We found about Big Island Bee’s from the Shaka Tour app and so glad we did. Store was full of some interesting history, bee hive art and tons of honey. We were asked if wanted to do a private tasting and it was great. The honey was amazing but the information that we got was even better. Defiantly recommend!!

Loved this experience...would do it again!

Enjoyed a lovely experience viewing and learning about bees at this apiary. Amazing to see the hive (frames) full of bees and identifying the queen as part of the tour.
We were greeted with a tart and iced tea which use Big Island Bee honey. This was followed by an up close (but safe) info session on the bees. We had the opportunity to taste the various honeys and infused honey. Learned a lot, well paced, good for all ages.
Highly recommend!
