This place is a small little gem. The older couple that runs it are simply amazing. They gave each one of the kids cards with info on the item they chose. Also there is something for even 50 cents so it wont break the bank. So while your in town stop in and enjoy.

I'd heard for a few years about Ava's and finally stopped in. Love this place and Ava and Eddie! SO knowledgeable, easy-going, and their outdoor display, well-labeled, is terrific. From now on, I will go way out of my way to visit them!

We were very disappointed, they were not open, had no hours of operation nothing. I called the number in the brochure and left 2 messages, never get a call back. They were the main reason that we went through Thermopolis to go home, even though it was the long way back to KS. We were very upset with them. I would not recommend any one going.....

I stopped at Ava's on a Sunday afternoon when downtown Thermopolis stores were closed. I'm so glad I did - it's a fun and fascinating place. The shop is located next to McDonalds on the south end of town. Ava is an amazing person and I really enjoyed talking with her. She has incredible knowledge of local geology and her shop is beautifully laid out with all kinds of local rocks and minerals plus stones from all over the world. She and her husband have a long held passion for geology. In their explorations during the 1980s, they came upon a dinosaur fossil which in 1986 was ultimately named for Ava - "Avaceratops".
I wasn't expecting to buy anything when I first walked in, but the beautiful selection of unique local rocks got the better of me. I walked out with beautiful WY petrified wood, aventurine, spanish point, fossilized algae and for my 9-year old niece, some fantastic dinosaur dung fossils and gastroliths. Ava's sterling jewelry selection looks wonderful too.
If you're visiting Thermopolis, stop in, learn and be amazed at the beautiful rocks and jewelry Ava has available. You'll want to take some home with you.

We only found this place because we did the Windy Rover Canyon white water rafting, and Cameron, our guide, is the grandson of the couple who run it, Eddie and Ava. We popped in when we had a few minutes to spare, and it's great! Eddie and Ava were so friendly, happy to chat, and they have a really great collection of polished rocks, semi-precious stones mounted in lovely silver jewellery, and fossils. Prices range from very reasonable to the sky is the limit for some of the rarer fossils.
One thing I should mention is that these guys actually discovered a new species of dinosaur, and got to name it the Avaceratops. How cool is that? So they really know what they are talking about.
We bought a really lovely pendant for our daughter, a fossil trilobite (I've wanted a trilobite ever since I was a dinosaur obsessed small child) and a couple of other bits, all for a very reasonable price.

We love rock shops. The owners have their own mines and are very friendly. They are super knowledgeable about their jems and rocks. We spent well over an hour in this small one room shop. The selection is very good. They cut their own stones and make their own jewelry. Easy to find.

First - Ava has a dinosaur named after her. A freaking dinosaur - the Avaceratops. Look it up. AMAZING. Her and her husband own the shop (he is adamant about mentioning he found the quarry in which Ava found the -ceratops 😉). A great, down to earth couple who love sharing their experience, knowledge, and love of all things rock and fossil. Carve out some time in your schedule to give these guys a visit - they have Wyoming maps the will give you and share information about their state. Wonderful.

Ava and her husband Eddie were very knowledgable of geology, local stones and petrified wood and the area in general. Ava's jewelry is beautiful. I bought two pairs of earrings. We bought rocks and petrified wood for ourselves and family. Their prices were very reasonable compared to others that we had seen. We liked the fact that much of what they had came from Thermopolis and Wyoming in general. I would highly recommend a visit.
