Excellent fly fishing school for my family of 5 (including 8, 11, 12 year olds). Lots of good instructions which made the day a lot of fun. We were all casting, mending and catching fish all day. Jimmy was a terrific guide who clearly had a lot of experience teaching the proper techniques of fly fishing. Saw bald eagles and other animals along the way too. We had a 5 person boat, which I found out is very unique due to it’s size. Most other options for a family of 5 include renting 2 boats, which is really, way more expensive.

My family of 5 (3 teens , my husband & I) just had an amazing fly fishing trip 2days ago and it was a great way to start our vacation in Jackson Hole! Our guide was Bryan and he was so knowledgeable of native fish and different species of animals in the area. He was patient in teaching us all how to Fly fish and encouraging when we got it! Unfortunately the conditions that day weren’t great for fishing (the waters were muddy) but we knew that going in and Bryan worked so hard to get us a fish ! We had success and had a lot of laughs and beautiful views throughout the day. I Would highly recommend Bryan , he was personable and determined to see his guests get a catch. We made great memories and will remember this experience for a lifetime!

My husband booked a half day private drift boat trip and had a blast on the river with our guide Ian. We were beginners at fly fishing and both caught fish. We had great time and learned a lot during the whole trip. We would recommend this trip to anyone looking to book a fly fishing trip in the Jackson Hole area! We will be back!

I cannot say enough good things about my fly fishing experience with Ian Ford and the Jackson Hole Fly Fishing School. I did a half day walk/wade, and it was a blast to get out into the water and fish. Ian was very easy going and could not have been nicer throughout the entire experience. He educated me on the types of insects that the fish eat in the Jackson waters, and spent time explaining the differences between them. He brought everything we needed, and was constantly setting up the rods with different types of flies. We caught three fish: a Rocky Mt. white fish and two cut throat trout. Ian provided lunch as well which we ate sitting by the stream we were fishing. I could not have had a better time, and I highly recommend them for your fishing adventures in Jackson Hole.

Our walk and wade private school was our favorite part of the trip! We had so much fun fishing and enjoyed that it was also very educational on entomology and fish diet. We learned a lot and our guide was so awesome! This was our first time fly fishing and our guide helped us pick up the technique very quickly and get out on the water. We both caught multiple fish, including a 15 inch cutthroat trout. The location we were fishing in was beautiful and we enjoyed lunch on the creek. When we return to Jackson Hole, we will definitely book another fishing trip with Jackson Hole Fly Fishing School.

This was amazing! I took my 12 year old son who wanted to learn to fly fish. We went with the all day drift boat to maximize the chance of catching fish - and boy did we catch a lot of fish! Our guide Jimmy went above and beyond to make the day special. He picked us up from our hotel and immediately starting chatting with my son and getting him comfortable. He taught us all of the skills we needed, answered so many curious questions, and was supportive and fun all day as we learned the ropes and started bringing in fish. What I didn't understand going in was what an extraordinary physical feat this was - he rowed us through mild rapids and jumped in the river multiple times to get the fish in the net. The ride on the boat itself would have been worth the price - a simply gorgeous route down the snake river. This was one of the best experiences of my life, truly, and I recommend to anyone who enjoys being outdoors or has interest in fly fishing. It was a full day of fun, adventure, and beautiful views. Delivered well above and beyond what we were expecting.

Jackson Hole Fly Fishing School’s three-day program far exceeded my expectations. I expected to be in a class with other students. Instead, all three days were one-on-one with instructor/guides. The first day was streamside with guide Quinn Stevens, who taught me how to select the right flies in different situations, worked with me on my casting technique (I’d fly fished only once before and that was 20 years ago), and then coached me during a couple hours of fishing in which I actually landed a few. The next day was a full day of wading and fishing with Quinn, and I caught my first cutthroat trout, among other fish. Day three was aboard a drift boat on the Green River with instructor/guide Jimmy Connacher. The brown trout of the Green are tough fighters, but I hauled in some big ones, as well as a rainbow, under Jimmy’s tutelage. Quinn and Jimmy proved themselves to be not only knowledge and patient teachers, but also fun companions. I’d go fishing with them any time. And I’d recommend the Jackson Hole Fly Fishing School to anyone who wants to learn this challenging sport.

Fly fishing with our guide Jimmy was excellent. He was able to teach my fiancée how to cast a fly rod and she picked up great on it. I’m not sure it would have been the same with any other guide. I would recommend this fishing trip for anyone whether you have ever held a fly rod or not. We also caught several fish too.

Super fun drift float fly fishing on the Snake. Our guide Jimmy was well-versed on the Snake and an excellent oars-man navigating the boat to some terrific water to fish. Definitely going back. Great day on the water.

Outstanding guides and such a thoughtful approach to customer experience. Went with my dad and girlfriend over a few days. My dad has fly fished throughout his life and my girlfriend and I were brand new. The guides gave us newbies an incredible, patient walkthrough on the basics and fantastic coaching throughout the trip, and gave my dad great tips to help him improve. They made an intimidating experience feel very approachable and super fun. My dad can’t stop talking about how much fun he had. We all caught some great fish, and you could tell how passionate the guides were about the fish by how excited they got as we pulled them in. Couldn’t recommend the outfit more highly - new to fly fishing or experienced

What is the best month for fishing?

This is a great question as our river conditions are always changing. I am finding that April and September & October are fast becoming the best fishing months of the season. July & August are a safe bet but generally Jackson Hole is busy this time of year and experienced fisherman would love the shoulder season dry fly fishing. It is hard to be beat foliage season the second to last weekend of September:)

Hello Jan,
Our Private Drift Boat School would be the best option for experienced anglers. These full day (8 hours) trips include transportation and pickup from your hotel or vacation rental. Full day trips run $550 per boat (two anglers) with all equipment and a great gourmet lunch included as well. Please don't hesitate to call or email with anymore questions.
