Grand Teton and National Elk Refuge Winter Day Trip

30 reviews
There’s a special beauty to Grand Teton National Park in the snowy silence of winter, free of the summertime crowds. On this Grand Teton day trip from Jackson Hole, a guide helps you search for bison and bighorn sheep, and you could also see moose, coyotes, eagles, or even wolves. In addition, visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art as well as the National Elk Refuge, where you ride past herds of powerful elk on a comfortable, horse-drawn sleigh.

I don’t know where they got 23 miles for the loop; I found it to be 9.5 miles/15.3 km from Cache Creek Trailhead to Game Creek TH. Of course, one can go further up Cache but that’s not the loop. This trail offers outstanding and easy access to the national forest from Jackson. I fondly remember my first hikes up here in 1980 before there were the myriad of side trails enjoyed now. It is a refreshing place in which to connect with nature and fine tune ones fitness.

Easy trails, well marked. Good variety of open dirt road, single track trails both on the hillside and near the creek. Good way to acclimate to the elevation.

Had some extra time while in Jackson,so we took a short hike up this canyon. It is popular with mountain bikers, and hikers. Enjoyed the scenery.

We spent a half day skiing alongside the Cashe Creek and took the groomed more boring trail back. Only a few fat tires and snow shoers. Saw a moose both ways. Absolutely fantastic trail, we were all entertained. On the way back we almost skied back into town. The snow was good when we were there, so we'd highly recommend it during good snow, otherwise some parts (like the steps) might be very challenging.

This is a really nice trail for an easy hike. It is pretty flat with beautiful trees and native plants.
