This is one of the most beautiful rides I’ve been on. We were coming back from Yellowstone Park going back to Cody, just amazing and the switchbacks….yikes! By the time to get to the top it was cold and windy, wasn’t ready for that…lol. A definite must drive if in the area.

This is a beautiful spot to stop and rest on the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. The vault toilets were clean and much appreciated. There was a nice breeze as we gazed at the mountains and valley below. This is the pass through which Chief Joseph led his Nez Perce Indians as the U.S. Army pursued them.

Ok, this place is great and terrible at the same time

The great. - Amazing views. Absolutely beautiful Vistas that seem to go on forever. A great history to this place also. Finally lovely, and fat as they can be, chipmunks who will come up and pull on your pants leg asking for crackers.

The Terrible - Sturgis. Apparently as part of the Sturgis experience the bikers like to ride this highway and stop at this point. Groups of 20 at a time , every ten minutes. As a friend put it "Its like trying to enjoy nature in one giants exhaust pipe" The noise pollution from so many bikes with their loud pipes and radios is unbearable. Also it leads to a lot crowding especially for the bathrooms.

In short if its the last half of July or the first half of august skip this, skip the whole highway. Any other time of the year make this a must stop.

My husband, two young daughters and I took this side trip when we visited Cody last weekend. The drive was beautiful and peaceful, even with two kids fighting in the back seat. It was a nice drive, rising higher but not too steep, to really enjoy the view. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking! I am hard pressed to think of another view that I have seen that beautiful. Even with a slight wind, it was so peaceful. The statue is very original and very pretty. Definitely worth visiting!

This is totally worth the trip out to Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. While the overlook is spectacular, there are a dozen memorable overlooks that will thrill tourists and photographers. The Overlook provides tablets with the story of the rNez Perce Indians and their desperate flight through those mountains with the Army in close pursuit remaining . You will not soon forget this.

I've lived in the West most of my life, but had never been to northwest Wyoming. The scenery on the Chief Joseph highway is the most spectacular of our loop through Yellowstone and Cody.

Breathtakingly views of Wyoming and very interesting information of the history of the Nez Perce Indians that escaped over this mountain. There was even a chipmunk living up on this view point.

Wow, what a brilliant place to stop on the way to Yellowstone from Cody. Pictures just don’t do it justice. You really have to go there to experience it.
