A fun visit and must see.
May 2021
Our purpose of coming to Cody, WY, to go through this center. It has everything about the wild west, including western art, the largest gun collection in the world, a lot of artifacts of the west, including western outlaws. Buffalo Bill did a lot of things and they have it. They have a cafe for food and drinks. They have a lot of stuff for kids to do and see. One thing I really liked, they have quality beers, nothing like a beer after a day and a half of walking. Cody in its own right has a lot of things to do, a must visit.

Well organized museum of Western history
Jun 2020
Our family stopped in Cody and specifically included in our plan this excellent museum focused on the West, the culture and the development of the upper Great Plains. I was very impressed with the organization and the displays which put the history into context. Great for adults and kids and well worth planning a visit.

we had an amazing visit
Apr 2021
We did a private tour of the firearms museum with Kirsten. She is fantastic!! Tour is well worth the price. We spent two days in the museums and enjoyed every bit of it. The displays are well done, with ample elbow room to avoid crowds. There are several interactive opportunities. The restrooms were very clean and modern with excellent amenities for those with special needs.

Traveled to Cody solely to visit the Center of the West
Apr 2021
We were in Cody with the sole purpose to spend 2 days in the Museum. To avoid the Yellowstone bound crowds, April is a great time to visit the area. The facility is indeed world class and I am afraid 2 days was not enough time. But no worries we live only 3 hrs. away and we WILL return again to see what we missed.

We love this place. Go in for a quick look at great art, or wander for hours. Any of the 5 sections are fantastic.

Why haven't we visited here more often?
Jan 2021
We have not been here in years, because we always seem to be in Cody en route to somewhere else. This time, we made the museum the destination for a day, and we were glad we did. The Smithsonian has recently become involved in its operation, and it shows.

The Draper museum is outstanding, and Iearned things about wildlife even though I've been exposed to YNP & its educational offerings my whole life. However, the information on oil & gas is badly dated. That segment needs a quick fix up, just in the text. Everything else was fantastic and innovatively laid out by altitude, literally.

The Whitney Gallery was impressive, although some of the modern art was a bit lacking- I did expect more well-known names to add to the famous Bierstadt, Moran and Catlin paintings they have. Much of the collection is not on display, so we need to go back frequently to see it. I was surprised to see no photography, though I know they have a collection- while in the shop I bought a print of a photo by Charles Belden. I hope they rotate those out from time to time.

The Plains Indian section was absolutely stunning. I can't recommend it highly enough. I didn't see the firearms exhibit, though half the family did, and really liked it. The museum about Buffalo Bill was very interesting- even if you don't particularly care about him, the artifacts are wonderful and give a snapshot of the times.

While we were there, there was an exhibit on the Cody Stampede, which is very well-done and gives one a feel for the evolution of this fixture of the rodeo circuit and major player in the modern cultural life of the area.

We were there 5 hours and between all of us, saw the entire museum. If you want to see it all yourself & do more than just walk through it, you will need all day.
