About
This train was a gift from the French in appreciation for the American Friendship Train that supplied food to the French during World War II. On its "thank you" tour, the Merci Train deposited a boxcar full of presents at each state capital.

I am always amazed at my own lack of knowledge. OK, this is just a car from a train, but it is a reminder of the graciousness among peoples. Go to Wikipedia, read the history, and enjoy what Americans did for the French, then how...More

Look for American Legion Hall #6 to find the Merci Train. It is now behind a chain link fence that is locked, but a good spot to stop and appreciate what it is.

On the day of my visit, November 6, 2016, the Merci Train was bare of all badges and decorations of any kind. Nothing to tell folks what it was. Don't know if it was being refurbished or simply in disarray.

Apparently France sent 50 train box cars to the USA for our help during WWII. The one for WY wound up here @ Cheyenne. It's a very small but inspiring gesture. We sent train box cars of supplies to them during the conflict. This site...More

Of interest to railroad and history buffs. Great gift from France to Cheyenne, Wyoming. It's upkeep has continued through the years and worth the viewing.
