Great for Families, But More Accessibility and Inclusivity Needed
3.0 of 5 bubblesJan 2025
Hogadon Ski Area is a hidden gem with a lot to offer. It’s a great place for families, with a small, manageable layout that makes it easy to keep track of kids—I feel safe letting them ski without worrying about them getting lost. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the area is relatively affordable compared to larger resorts. It’s also a short drive from town, with a convenient drop-off area and parking. The terrain offers a mix of groomed runs, off-piste challenges, and even access to backcountry skiing, making it enjoyable for a variety of skill levels. However, there is limited beginner terrain, especially early in the season, which can be frustrating for those just learning to ski. One area where Hogadon could improve is in inclusivity and accessibility. While the lodge is modern and ADA-compliant, other aspects of the ski area, like the aging chairlift, pose challenges for visitors with disabilities. There are also limited inclusive programs for adaptive skiers, which could be a great addition to the area’s offerings. Expanding these programs and addressing accessibility barriers would make Hogadon a more welcoming destination for everyone. Overall, Hogadon is a wonderful local ski area with a lot of potential to grow. The mix of terrain, affordable pricing, and family-friendly atmosphere make it worth a visit. I look forward to seeing how the area continues to develop in the future.

Even though this is a relatively small ski area, I always really enjoy skiing here. I try to stick to weekdays to avoid the busyness of the weekend.

My three, ages 22, 19, 15 had a wonderful afternoon of Ski School from Mountain Sports that work out of Hogadon. They had a great teacher, Suzanne. They learned the basics for safety and for establishing a new enjoyment of the sport of skiing downhill. They had so much fun they want to come back next year. I had fun on the blue runs, groomed nicely with good early season snow. It will just get better this year.

I was in town for a business trip, the group wanted to see the city of Casper and surrounding area, we drove up the mountain to Hogadon Ski are, they were in the process of adding snow to many runs but the view and the food was great comfort food before the banquet in the evening in Casper. Many plan to return her with their families and enjoy the day.

Perfect little spot for folks that live in casper - quick trip up the mountain and good skiing. The new lodge is amazing ....raising the prices in the bar for this year not so great. $10 for a beer on tap is beyond outrageous. Come on casper - don’t ruin a good thing as its getting started!

I taught skiing here for 10 seasons, so I'm very familiar with Hogadon. There will be a new day lodge (much needed) finished this fall - ready for the 2017/18 ski season. Vertical is not much - 600 ft., but the lift tickets are reasonable. Also, there are black diamonds. If you're 70 years old or over, you ski for free (like me). Snowmaking capability, which is often needed. Casper has wind - so dress accordingly. Note: I didn't "travel" to Hogadon -- I live in Casper.

This is the definition of a community ski hill. Great little mountain perfect for families. It is the kind of place where young ones can learn to ski, jr. high and high school kids can enjoy a day of freedom with friends, parents can take a few runs with kids and then let the kids go off on their own (and parents can get some fun time together). There is a true community on the mountain.

This is one of very few ski areas where you park at the TOP of the mountain and ski down. Worth checking out just for that!

New lodge is under construction and it should be VERY nice when done.

Great place for families and to get your money's worth. You can't beat the value. The new lodge will be complete in 2017 and will be fantastic year-round.
