Sunny late summer day returning from the eclipse in Caspar, we FINALLY stopped at Lake DeSmet for a dip and picnic lunch. I like to swim and the bouy's are well spread to keep boating out. Water lovely in August. Though the Lake was plenty...More

I take my sons fishing here every year, and though we shoreline fish, boat fishing would be better. There isn't a ton of shoreline where you can fish and not be entangled by rocks in the water or small cliffs. Camping here in July is...More

It's a nice lake. Not the most beautiful but decent size and possibility to camp there. I have been several times and we always enjoyed.

I wouldn't call this a hidden jewel, but it is a nice and relatively quiet spot to camp. There are plenty of pull through and back in spots available. It is a fairly busy spot on the weekend. There is an RV Park just up...More

Took my vintage camper and my two teen daughters for an October weekend camping at Lake Desmet. Beautiful Wyoming lake with many camping options. There are 8 RV spots with electricity, and many more with no hook-ups. No water or sewage hookups. We chose one...More

Our son had a soccer tournament in Big Horn between Buffalo and Sheridan and every hotel was booked and cost $150+, plus the KOA was expensive and full. My wife found this location and was able to get a spot for $15 (with 30amps). Keep...More

We enjoyed our kayaking around Lake DeSmet. We found it by accident, right along the highway. There was easy access to the lake and very few boats. A nice break during a road trip.

Lake DeSmet has long been a favorite spot for us to boat, fish and camp. They've recently upgraded and leveled more primative camp ($10) spots, and some sites now have electric ($15). Skiing, swimming, and boating (sailboats-power boats) is popular, but bank (trout) fishing can...More

What a lovely setting for the sunset! It is most unusual to have such a large lake in the glacial hills of Wyoming. Very peaceful and scenic in early summer--only saw one other small group when we were there.
