Very Enjoyable
Sep 2021
The entire distance is simplly breathtaking.

There are tight turns, they are moments that make you consider that perhaps you should turn around,. DO NOT.

Take your time, enjoy the scenery.

Amazing Views
Sep 2021 • Solo
The views from Buffalo to Ten Sleep are absolutely fantastic. Highest Pass is 9600 feet with a couple of switchbacks going down to Ten Sleep. Twenty five on the corners means twenty five, take heed.

This is a beautiful drive. If you like to hike, there are plenty of opportunities. We enjoyed the diverse landscapes. We saw elk and an eagle too!

A must do drive through the Bighorns
May 2021
Buffalo is a nice place to start your drive west through the Bighorns on highway 16 headed to Tensleep and Worland. It's a well-maintained road and has beautiful mountain views throughout the entire drive. Don't miss it when you are in this area.

Fantastic Views Of The Big Horn Mountains
May 2021
We drove 14 miles west of Buffalo and stopped in a large parking area. The horizon was mostly snow-capped peaks about 10 -20 miles away and about a mile higher than the parking lot, itself maybe 6000' elevation

Outstanding drive
May 2021
We took Highway 16 west through Bighorn Forest, turned north, and took Highway 14 back east. Both are incredibly scenic, though Highway 16 is the easier of the two. Heading west from Buffalo (a scenic town with a great downtown district), you start in a canyon between two mountains and gradually head up, eventually reaching the summit of one of the mountains. If you pull over, it's a short hike to the top. The snow on the mountain lasts easily into the early summer months. Then you descend into Ten Sleep canyon with the stunning Ten Sleep Creek heading down the mountain, winding beside you and below you. It's a must-see as the snow melts in late May. You'll get a couple hairpin corners near the west end of the canyon but there are not any frightening drop-offs. Overall, 16 is a relatively easy drive through the mountains, and incredibly beautiful. When you get out of the park, be sure to keep heading west to Worland and treat yourself with a meal at the Brass Plum. It's a small town restaurant with amazing food that could easily compete in a large city.

Stressful for RVs
May 2021 • Couples
Drove 32' RV from Cody today. I would not recommend this route for trip planning. Sixty miles from Ten Sleep to Buffalo. All of it was in 1st or 2nd gears. Very stressful despite good road. Two hours for 60 miles but saved brakes. Yes, great scenery but come up from Shoshone thru mountains. Much better, no grades, more beautiful canyons. Hwy 120 to Cody is great.
Also, if you do take Hwy 16 thru the Bighorn Mountains, stay on it to Cody. No shortcuts as roads are in poor condition.

Great drive to the west of Buffalo. Would be awesome in nearly any vehicle besides a big rig! Roads in great shape, bends and turns.

Keep a sharp eye on this drive! I saw four Moose on this road as we travel to the other side of the Bighorn Mountains.
