Well maintained, beautiful scenery. Great photo ops.
Even saw two adult Bald Eagles flying and the roosting on a tree along the river and a great heron, birds you won't see in the city!!! The rock formation always amazes me.

Witches Gulch was an included stop on both the Upper Dells tour and Jet boat tour we participated in. The path and walkway are great and only narrowed a bit towards the end of the trail towards a small concession stand (which was great to breakup the tours) and included a bathroom area. Pictures in the gulch were awesome and our family loved how windy the paths got at times, it made you feel like you were almost by yourself in the gulch.

You may read you can pay $3 and walk in from the road. This is not true, we tried it as we were leaving town. Locked with gates, fences and cameras, the boat company has made sure that the property is only assessable from the water on their boats. We took out jet ski down the river and looked at it, it does seem remarkable and a lot to maintain for the company that owns the boardwalks. It seems like this should be public property owned by the Department of Natural Resources and I don't even like government takeovers of private concessions.

We had a ball on the ghost tour. We enjoyed the ride out to Witch's Gulch and then walking along the trails we were continually "scared" by the live actors. It was so much fun! They do an excellent job. Meeting all the actors afterwards in their costumes was really enjoyable too. One person did NOT heed the warnings and brought a young child. He was crying. Listen to the organizers and do not bring little kids!

Walked through the Witches Gulch as part of our upper Dells boat trip. Fascinating to get up close to the sandstone banks and the intricate bath the river carved over thousands of years. Fairly easy walk even for someone using a cane. The path is mostly flat with a gentle incline.

We took the boat tour of the lake. The scenery was spectacular! The boat made a stop at Witches Gulch, where we were able to make the short easy walk through the rock formation knowb as Witches gulch. When we reached the end of the Boardwalk there was a parking lot, so there apparently is accessby motor vehicle as well as boat. The snack bar had an end of season sale- large delicious ice cream cones for $1!

To tour this area you have to take the Upper Dells Boat Tour. A very nice tour overall and this hike was definitely the highlight. Our 11 son said it was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen in nature. Unfortunately you are only able to spend 15-20 minutes in the area to keep up with the tour.

My husband and I went on this trip. My kids (10, 12,14, 15) thought it looked and sounded boring. We had a blast. Learned some great history. The sites are beautiful. Two stops. I feel the kids may have been a little bored.

These rock formations and the slot canyon and the creek that created the canyon are all wonderful. You must take a boat to the canyon, disembark and walk for 5 minutes up the boardwalk to the origin of the canyon. There is (ugh) a concession stand and gift shop there.

Upper Boat Tours tour guide was awesome and knowledgeable! Stopped at Witches Gulch which is beautiful and a short walk! Stopped at the dog jump too and saw a puppers jump over a cliff onto a nearby stone structure! Awesome in slow-mo! Definitely check out this tour! Booked thru Passport for a discount.

Is it practical to bring a full-size stroller onto the boat and onto the trail?
Written June 6, 2023
I think I already know the answer, but I’ll ask anyway. Can dogs come on the boat tour? TIA!
Written August 22, 2021
I've never seen one on the tour. I would suspect that only ADA dogs are permitted.

I get extremely seasick in a boat so I was wondering if we could drive to see the Witch's Gulch. It looks beautiful.
Written June 15, 2021
Unfortunately, the drive to Witches Gulch is no longer available to the public.

Do you have to get back on the same boat? Can you hike and catch another boat later? I would love to hike the entire two miles but can't do that in 20 minutes.
Written August 10, 2019
There’s nowhere to hike in this area, it’s all private property. The time from the boat allows enough time to see what there is to see!

Is there any way you could take your own boat to see witch’s gulch?
Written June 27, 2019
I believe the dock where you gain access to Witches Gulch is privately owned by Dells Boat Tours.

Where did you guys park and was there a path to Witch's Gulch?
Written May 7, 2019
If you do the Dells Boat Tour the free parking is directly behind Ripley's.
