    Great place to visit
Great location for a wedding. They have a nice chapel in the woods they have a cover bridge. They have new owners that are restoring it they are raising money to replace the water wheel on the mill. They now have a coffee shop and a pretty good sandwich shop

    Beautiful setting!
On a day trip to Hartland Creek State Park, we checked out Trip Advisor to see what else there was to see in the area. This great little ice cream store/gift shop and natural beauty was a nice way to finish off our day. I don't know why the other reviewer was offended by the fence & signage, it added to the privacy of the site which offers events too. Definitely worth a stop!

One of the better places to see Crystal River ( skip the overpriced ice cream)
If you like overpriced ice cream and sandwiches, this is your place. However, it is one of the better places to see the Crystal River. MY ADVICE- skip the ice cream and just spend a few minutes checking this place out. In just a few minutes you will be able to experience all this site has to offer. In about 10-15 minutes you can walk along the river and go across the covered bridge. There is no charge here for admission. There is also a gift shop here that sells lots of the usual sort of stuff. I’m not a gift shop person, but it is an ok gift shop.

    Excitement turned to Disappointment Quickly
I saw the signs for the covered bridge while driving through waupaca and was excited because it seemed like a cute place to stop and check out. Unfortunately, it’s entirely fenced in and difficult to find the actual bridge if you’re not looking for the BUSINESS. The entire length of the fence is also covered in signs that say “CUSTOMER PARKING, OTHERS WILL BE TOWED.” and the sign for the steps to the bridge area have a sign FULL of rules and another that says “Free to PATRONS of Red Mill.” It all felt very mean spirited; I would NOT recommend stopping if you see it as a cute place to stop and social distance/explore. I noticed the sign said “No pets,” and I wasn’t going to leave my dog in the car, so I asked one of the workers if I could carry her around while I looked around, because I thought it might be a nice place to take pictures with my boyfriend. (My dog is 12 pounds.) The worker told me that was NOT allowed and that professional photos are NOT allowed unless you pay an additional fee. Again, mean spirited. Bottom line: There are plenty of other covered bridges in the area that are FREE and try to manipulate you into spending money just to enjoy nature.

    Best Ice Cream Ever!
The owners go out of their way to greet you and be friendly. They only use the best ice cream which is made in Madison, WI Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream is the best! It is creamy and smooth and the selection of flavors is great. Buy your ice cream and then walk around the beautiful grounds of this scenic place. The renovations on this historic site and building has been extensive!

    Lunch with friends
Met friends for lunch. Had cup of soup and sandwich which was very delicious. Order at a counter and they bring food to you in a paper bag. There is seating inside to eat or could go outsid by the river and eat. Beautiful view and area. Would defiantly recommend to stop in and check out.

    Better Than Ever!
We've visited the Red Mill many times since Sheila and Todd Lembcke bought the place several years ago and undertook a complete renovation. I remember the place from the '70s and '80s when it was known as The Red Mill Colonial Shop. Back then it specialized in colonial style furniture plus home decor, fine china and crystal. The owners at the time (Delmar and Edna Schmidt) had not only restored and carefully decorated the mill, they enhanced the beautiful surrounding property by building a covered bridge across the meandering mill stream (aka the Crystal River) with a quaint little Chapel in The Woods at the far side. The whole back-story is too long for a review like this. The Mill is fully renovated again (actually better than before) and the Chapel and Covered Bridge also have been revitalized. Part of the old mill's rustic storage area has been converted into a very nice ice cream/coffee/sandwich shop. Whether you're a tourist or full time resident, there's nothing in the Waupaca area that compares to getting a cup of gourmet coffee or a hand-packed ice cream cone and taking it for a stroll around The Red Mill's grounds on a beautiful day. Oh, yes . . . The Mill itself is now operated as a gift shop with a fine assortment of interesting items, but no more colonial style furniture.

Thanks to the new owners for saving something special!
This is a lovely little stop on an enchanting part of the Crystal River that could very easily have been closed down and forgotten. Thank goodness for people with vision who appreciate saving old historic sites from crumbling away. I think the makeover inside is well done and the gift shop will continue to grow. I love the addition of a coffee shop with ice cream. Great selection of sundaes and beverages! It is fun and cozy to sit inside and it is still an amazing venue outside for a quaint gathering!

The Red Mill is located in a very historical area of Wisconsin in Waupaca County. There were once two very prosperous little towns near one another on the Crystal River; Rural, which is a couple of miles upriver and nearby Parfreyville, of which Red Mill was a part – both towns faded out in time due to the fact that the railroad by passed them. It was Waupaca that reaped benefits of a railroad. Today the little towns of Rural and Parfreyville are “rising from the ashes” so to speak as they go about capitalizing on their historical status in the area with many wonderful buildings… And so we have the Red Mill, an old grist mill turned into a wonderful haven for those seeking the enjoyment of nature, treats, and gifts. The former dam was removed just upstream, and the big water wheel too but the structure of the tail race remains in place. The exterior and interior of the building looks like a picture of yesteryear with many antique items added to their décor. There is the gift shop, general store if you will, ice cream parlor… and let’s not forget the covered bridge that was built in 1970 – and across the river is the `Church in the Wildwood. The Crystal River still runs clear and free today as she courses along the beautiful Red Mill, a wondrous attraction for all to see.
