Good color for a fall trip. Two good loop trails that both have peaks that give differing views of the Mississippi River.

We are not campers but we enjoyed the park. We brought our bikes and did part of the Great River Trail. You can head north on the trail for only a few miles. Going south, you can enjoy the trail for miles and miles. There...More

Perrot State Park is for biking , hiking, walking, picnicking, camping,or just relaxing. It is located just outside of Trempealeau, WI. There is also a federal refuge nearby. This is an area to enjoy, relax, and de-stress.

The park itself is very nice. Hiking, kayaking, biking all great! Camping spots are big but mostly gravel. Showers were very clean but old. The only really draw back was SO many misquito, 24hrs a day they never stopped.

The park itself was beautiful. We didn't get an opportunity to travel the trails much as the bugs were quite bad as it was a very humid day after much rain. There wasn't alot of staff in the park except for in the check in...More

Right on the Mississippi river north of la crosse Wisconsin. Climbed the Brady's bluff trail. Nice views. Not difficult but 580 feet climb gradually up one side....the other more steps. I thought it was great to see a lot of young kids seeing nature.

I chose to stay at Perrot State Park because I had never stayed there before and I was traveling on 35, enjoying the fall colors. The sites are nice, the showers are ok at best and the drive through the park, along the Mississippi is...More

Best hiking, outdoors stuff in LaCrosse/Winona April (3 Replies)
We'll be camping at Perrot State Park mid-April. What's the best hiking, eagle/bird viewing, any outdoor activities around the La Crosse/Winona area? Sadly it may be too cool for bicycling..but we'll see what the weather brings.. Other interests..art galleries, theater(not movies), wine tasting, music(I see there's a music festival going on). Thx! for your help..

If you're at Perrot, then you're probably at the best hiking site in the area. As for bird watching, then I'd recommend Goose Island and the pull-offs on HWY 35 into Stoddard, but that's a little more than an hour south of Perrot. The swans may have been through already, but you might see pelicans. Note that Perrot has timber rattlers (I know, because I nearly stepped on one some years ago), so take care when hiking in the early morning.
