We usually eat lunch here on our trip between Minneapolis and Traverse City, Mi. Not this time. We stopped here on October 26, 2020 while Wisconsin's COVID19 cases were exploding. The cafe ladies weren't wearing masks. Totally irresponsible and disrespectful toward their customers. I did talk to them about how they're negatively affecting the business and their salaries by driving customers away . This is a business that depends on Dairy Science. Customer Care depends on Health Science, too. Because the cafe workers here reuse to wear masks, we didn't order lunch and won't be eating lunch there in the future. If they aren't willing to wear a mask to protect themselves and the customers during a pandemic, I can't imagine they're very careful about washing their hands or not coughing on the food they're preparing. Too bad, because we've enjoyed eating there for years. We did purchase our regular batch of cheese to take home. The young lady in the retail portion checking us out had a mask on. If she hadn't we would have left without making a purchase. We have a Right to expect a commercial business serving food to the public to require employees handling food and dealing with the public to wear masks especially as cases are skyrocketing in Wisconsin.

First, let us start off by saying we are so sorry for anyway in which we have offended or disappointed you! We have let all of our employees know we are encouraging masks, and even had our own branded masks made to make it easier for employees to have access to them. We do have a few employees that specifically have doctors notes exempting them from wearing. We understand customers concerns and have even had some employees bring in face shields, instead of masks, so that they can have an easier time breathing while still working to make sure our customers feel safe and secure. We understand that this pandemic has brought about a lot of feelings and uncertainties about how businesses are managed, but we can assure you that health and safety are our top priorities! Thank you for reaching out with your concerns and we hope this finds you well.

This cheese store was featured on CBS Sunday Morning and a road trip seemed to be in order. Good selection of Gouda cheeses. The grilled cheese sandwich is a must have.

We saw Marieke Gouda on CBS's Sunday Morning program and since we were planning a trip to Wisconsin anyway we took a little detour to taste the cheeses for ourselves. We had our five home schooled grandchildren with us so it seemed appropriate to take the tour. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the kids learned a lot about dairy farming and cheese making. We got to visit the barn and see the cows up close and personal. We also got to sample 7 cheeses. We ate in the restaurant and everyone loved their meal. I had the bacon balsamic jam hamburger with gouda--wonderful. We bought several of their cheeses and because these little places usually have products from other local folks we also purchased some artisan sourdough bread (really, really good), some Wisconsin maple syrup, and a few bottles of a nice German wine (mixture of Riesling and Moscato). Dinner was wine, cheese, and bread. A special treat for me was a selection of products from Europe (we lived in Germany for 3 1/2 years). I did pickup some fritessaus because it is the only way to enjoy french fries. We had a wonderful time and will stop again if we make it back to Wisconsin.

We stopped in Thorp for gas, with no advance knowledge of Marieke's. We followed the signs after filling up with gas and ended up filling up the cooler with cheese! We did the "self-tour", enjoyed watching the milking, viewing the calves and learned a lot from the informative signs. While we are empty nesters I'd say this is a great stop with school age children - an easy lesson in the farm-to-table path of food. Then let them have a bounce and treat them to an ice cream, What a great success story in quality food production true to craft and heritage.
