About
In the Marieke Gouda Store we sell our award winning Marieke Gouda cheese and all other kinds of local food, accessories and typical products from the Netherlands. From within the store there are viewing areas to see all stages of the cheese making process. And while you are watching how our cheesemakers are handcrafting our Marieke Gouda cheeses, you can enjoy an ice cream or a chocolate treat. At the same location you will find the Penterman Farm, it is located across the Marieke Gouda cheese making facility and is also equipped with viewing windows. Through viewing windows you can see our cows being milked. Also we have a huge jumping pillow where children (and adults!) Can get rid of some energy! Visit our store and our cows anytime or book a tour and we are more than happy to show you around and share our passion for modern family farming and the art of handcrafted cheesemaking!

The BEST GOUDA CHEESE IN AMERICA
Sep 2021
I LOVE MARIEKE GOUDA HOLLAND FAMILY CHEESE!!! It's a real nice place to buy
the BEST GOUDA CHEESE IN AMERICA!!
It's in Thorp, Wisconsin... which is halfway between Eau Claire and Wausau, off of
Highway 29.
The Team that work there sure are friendly!! Very professional and courteous!! ..and they know their cheese!
A shout out to Ruby, the Manager of the Cheese-shop and Vanessa, her trusty assistant.
I was staying at the FAIRBRIDGE INN and SUITES and they sent me there. I am really glad that they did!!!

Hello? We are still in a pandemic!
Apr 2021 • Couples
Apparently the store does not believe that Covid is still a problem. Employees did not wear masks. I was just astounded by this! We will not be stopping there again.

We Always Ate Lunch Here, Not Anymore
Oct 2020
We usually eat lunch here on our trip between Minneapolis and Traverse City, Mi. Not this time. We stopped here on October 26, 2020 while Wisconsin's COVID19 cases were exploding. The cafe ladies weren't wearing masks. Totally irresponsible and disrespectful toward their customers. I did talk to them about how they're negatively affecting the business and their salaries by driving customers away . This is a business that depends on Dairy Science. Customer Care depends on Health Science, too. Because the cafe workers here reuse to wear masks, we didn't order lunch and won't be eating lunch there in the future. If they aren't willing to wear a mask to protect themselves and the customers during a pandemic, I can't imagine they're very careful about washing their hands or not coughing on the food they're preparing. Too bad, because we've enjoyed eating there for years.
We did purchase our regular batch of cheese to take home. The young lady in the retail portion checking us out had a mask on. If she hadn't we would have left without making a purchase. We have a Right to expect a commercial business serving food to the public to require employees handling food and dealing with the public to wear masks especially as cases are skyrocketing in Wisconsin.

First, let us start off by saying we are so sorry for anyway in which we have offended or disappointed you! We have let all of our employees know we are encouraging masks, and even had our own branded masks made to make it easier for employees to have access to them. We do have a few employees that specifically have doctors notes exempting them from wearing. We understand customers concerns and have even had some employees bring in face shields, instead of masks, so that they can have an easier time breathing while still working to make sure our customers feel safe and secure. We understand that this pandemic has brought about a lot of feelings and uncertainties about how businesses are managed, but we can assure you that health and safety are our top priorities! Thank you for reaching out with your concerns and we hope this finds you well.

Stopover on way to Winnepeg
Oct 2019
This cheese store was featured on CBS Sunday Morning and a road trip seemed to be in order. Good selection of Gouda cheeses. The grilled cheese sandwich is a must have.

Absolutely Great!
Aug 2019
We saw Marieke Gouda on CBS's Sunday Morning program and since we were planning a trip to Wisconsin anyway we took a little detour to taste the cheeses for ourselves. We had our five home schooled grandchildren with us so it seemed appropriate to take the tour. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the kids learned a lot about dairy farming and cheese making. We got to visit the barn and see the cows up close and personal. We also got to sample 7 cheeses. We ate in the restaurant and everyone loved their meal. I had the bacon balsamic jam hamburger with gouda--wonderful. We bought several of their cheeses and because these little places usually have products from other local folks we also purchased some artisan sourdough bread (really, really good), some Wisconsin maple syrup, and a few bottles of a nice German wine (mixture of Riesling and Moscato). Dinner was wine, cheese, and bread. A special treat for me was a selection of products from Europe (we lived in Germany for 3 1/2 years). I did pickup some fritessaus because it is the only way to enjoy french fries. We had a wonderful time and will stop again if we make it back to Wisconsin.

Great break from the highway drive.

We stopped in Thorp for gas, with no advance knowledge of Marieke's. We followed the signs after filling up with gas and ended up filling up the cooler with cheese! We did the "self-tour", enjoyed watching the milking, viewing the calves and learned a lot from the informative signs. While we are empty nesters I'd say this is a great stop with school age children - an easy lesson in the farm-to-table path of food. Then let them have a bounce and treat them to an ice cream, What a great success story in quality food production true to craft and heritage.

Very Interesting if you want to see a working farm
Jul 2019 • Family
I took my 7 year old grandson to see this farm/cheese factory. I was going to try to take him to a working farm and cheese factory. But then I heard from a friend that Marieke had both. The tour was $5. And it took about an hour. A young gal did our tour and answered pretty much all our questions. We saw a milking parlor and at 1pm they were milking the cows. My grandson was not interested in the information, but he liked petting the calves and the milking cows. We got to see the barn and the spa they had for the cows. We saw the cheese being made and the storage room with all the cheese wheels. We got to sample the Gouda. Buy chocolate candy and before we went home had an ice cream cone. Oh, my grandson spend a half hour riding tricycles.

This was a "MOOING FUN TIME"!!!
Jun 2019 • Family
You will know you finally made it to Wisconsin at this stop. Bring the whole family, especially children. Go early enough to enjoy all the excitement. This is a whole farm set up including live viewing of milking the cows. Just watching how 24 cows at a time are being milked. Then released from the stanchions and another 24 follow in behind them. You can do the self walk through tour on your own or pay for a guide that also, includes samples of the many cheeses they produce right there. The viewing of this milking parlor system is very educational. However, the steps that go into the barn are somewhat hard to do for seniors and narrow passage with other people going the other direction. A ramp and/or elevator would be most welcomed for all. Going across the walk to the store and restaurant is so fun. You can shop for many things but most important will be the Gouda Cheese. They even have samples for you to try.
