About
In the Marieke Gouda Store we sell our award winning Marieke Gouda cheese and all other kinds of local food, accessories and typical products from the Netherlands. From within the store there are viewing areas to see all stages of the cheese making process. And while you are watching how our cheesemakers are handcrafting our Marieke Gouda cheeses, you can enjoy an ice cream or a chocolate treat. At the same location you will find the Penterman Farm, it is located across the Marieke Gouda cheese making facility and is also equipped with viewing windows. Through viewing windows you can see our cows being milked. Also we have a huge jumping pillow where children (and adults!) Can get rid of some energy! Visit our store and our cows anytime or book a tour and we are more than happy to show you around and share our passion for modern family farming and the art of handcrafted cheesemaking!

If you're driving between the Twin And the Fox River valley, there is a barren stretch of highway in which not a single good restaurant or rest area is located. That is, except for this Oasis! Marieke gouda is the perfect road trip stop. Excellent snacks, wonderful sit-down meals, clean restrooms, a bounce pad for kids (outside) and even barn tours. We will no longer consider highway 10 to be a desert, because we will always plan to stop at this gem from now on!!

Marieke Peterman's gouda cheese has been voted as some of the best in the world.

Penterman has won national and international awards with her Gouda made from raw milk produced on her family's farm.

The daughter of a dairy farmer in Holland, she earned her bachelor's degree in agriculture and became an agricultural inspector there.

Her husband Rolf Penterman's brother immigrated to Wisconsin from Holland in 1999 to work at a dairy farm. Rolf Penterman followed in 2002, and the brothers started Holland's Family Farm, which has since grown to an 800-cow milking operation.

In short, they are the quintessential American immigrant success story.

A few years ago, they moved their operations right off Highway 29 and have added a cafe.

I have not eaten at the cafe, but their farmstead cheeses are amazing.

I highly recommend the burning melange, made with raw cow's milk, stinging nettle, chives, celery, parsley, dried onion and garlic.

We usually eat lunch here on our trip between Minneapolis and Traverse City, Mi. Not this time. We stopped here on October 26, 2020 while Wisconsin's COVID19 cases were exploding. The cafe ladies weren't wearing masks. Totally irresponsible and disrespectful toward their customers. I did talk to them about how they're negatively affecting the business and their salaries by driving customers away . This is a business that depends on Dairy Science. Customer Care depends on Health Science, too. Because the cafe workers here reuse to wear masks, we didn't order lunch and won't be eating lunch there in the future. If they aren't willing to wear a mask to protect themselves and the customers during a pandemic, I can't imagine they're very careful about washing their hands or not coughing on the food they're preparing. Too bad, because we've enjoyed eating there for years.
We did purchase our regular batch of cheese to take home. The young lady in the retail portion checking us out had a mask on. If she hadn't we would have left without making a purchase. We have a Right to expect a commercial business serving food to the public to require employees handling food and dealing with the public to wear masks especially as cases are skyrocketing in Wisconsin.

First, let us start off by saying we are so sorry for anyway in which we have offended or disappointed you! We have let all of our employees know we are encouraging masks, and even had our own branded masks made to make it easier for employees to have access to them. We do have a few employees that specifically have doctors notes exempting them from wearing. We understand customers concerns and have even had some employees bring in face shields, instead of masks, so that they can have an easier time breathing while still working to make sure our customers feel safe and secure. We understand that this pandemic has brought about a lot of feelings and uncertainties about how businesses are managed, but we can assure you that health and safety are our top priorities! Thank you for reaching out with your concerns and we hope this finds you well.

I stopped to tour the dairy when I went home in the fall of 2016. Originally from a town not far from Thorp and a farmers daughter to boot. It was a great tour of the barns, Milking parlor, calf hutches. Wonderful looking herd and well cared for. The Cheese, gift store was outstanding. Looking at all the wheels of Gouda aging was a sight to see.
I picked up many items from the store for myself and friends to bring back to Arizona, where I now reside. Nothing like Wisconsin Cheese. Also, picked up Sausage from Nolechek's meats as well. I especially love the Bacon Gouda, fresh cheese curds.. Both difficult to find in Arizona. Waiting for the next batch to age so I can purchase on line..
There are a lot of Wisconsin cheese heads here in Arizona, so I am spreading the word.
Thank you, keep up the good work. Prost..

Marieke Gouda in Thorp, WI is a wonderful place to unwind after a long day of traveling.

The owner is originally from Holland, and the large site is very family-friendly. They have a very impressive on-site dairy operation; and they use several thousand gallons of milk per day to make some of the best Gouda cheese I've ever tasted in their world-class cheese factory.

There is also a gift shop with a large assortment of award-winning Marieke cheeses, local wines, and other trinkets.

If your hungry, they have a small cafe that makes great sandwiches and other items to order. I highly recommend the grilled cheese and the Gouda burger!

Tours of the dairy and cheese factory are given each day at 9 am and 1 pm. Bring the kids, try some wine and cheese and enjoy a relaxing time at Marieke Gouda!

Stopped by to see what they had to offer. Young man working in the store was very helpful - ended up buying more than I expected! I work in retail & was impressed by his demeanor and focus on what I would like. Did not take part in any of the various activities they have, but can certainly variety the store has a great employee!

We wanted to stop and rest between destinations and ended up staying much longer! The people were such fun, the cheese and dairy info were so interesting and the shop had lots to look at from food to items from the Netherlands. And we adults even played on the kangaroo bounce since there were no kids around that day! Lots of fun!

My daughter and I took my aunt and sister-in-law from out of town to lunch. We all had salads. I had the Salmon Salad, and it was deee-liscious! Good service, good food, and the prices are reasonable! Highly recommend!

We recently enjoyed a self guided tour and found it very interesting. There were numerous activities for children and all ages. What really lowered our visit was unfriendly, not knowledgeable staff. At first when we walked in the store all the sampling trays were empty. When we returned after viewing the milking, we were able to sample. When we asked what age cheese we were sampling in order to purchase some, they obviously didn't know and instead of either finding out or saying they didn't know, they made up an answer that there was only one age of fenugreek. That was obviously wrong when we discovered 2 ages in the display shelf. Then when they were informed of that they fumbled another wrong answer. Later when we tried to buy ice cream it was the same. No smiles, no cordial ness, just duty.
We have visited this store other times in the past and staff had been extremely knowledgeable, cordial, with sales people that seemed to enjoy sharing about the product and encouraging sales. Our visitors from out of state commented on the poor atmosphere. Great cheese , crummy shopping experience.

We are very sorry to hear that you were unsatisfied with your shopping experience during your last visit with us. We have addressed the issues with our team. Since our flavored Gouda, such as Foenegreek, is typically sold in the 2-4 month category, we haven’t needed to label the age category in the past. We are now doing this, and it will ensure that all Team Members will know the age of each of the 24 different kinds of sample cups of Gouda we have. We very much want each and every visitor to feel welcomed and to have a wonderful experience with every visit. Thankfully, your past visits with us have been positive, and we certainly hope to have the chance to serve you and your guests again.
