After visiting other area wineries, we decided to give Red Oak a try too. We were given a list of wines to pick to taste and we sat at a table and did it ourselves due to covid regulations. We noticed that most of the wines were actually California wines. This doesn’t usually interest us as we want to taste real local fare, so we tried the ones listed “Door county”. Unfortunately, both my husband and I didn’t like any of the wine, and couldn’t finish 2 of the samples. We are big on wine but it just wasn’t that good. Go get some coffee next door instead.

There are several wineries in Door County. Some give you free tastings, but it is barely a splash, certainly not enough to make an impression. Some charge for tastings but still give you hardly enough to form an opinion. At Red Oak Winery, you pay $5, and you get to sample up to 7 wines. These are not paltry samples, they are nearly full servings. The winery itself is inside an inconspicuous building, but once you walk into the actual winery, you know you've found a great place. It's decorated tastefully, there is pleasant music playing and the general feel of it all is very laid-back and welcoming. You are not rushed, you are not made to feel that you are bothering them, and you have plenty of time to make your decision on what you'd like to purchase.
My husband and I have been here each of the three times we have been to Door County and we will most definitely be back! Don't skip this winery!

The courtesy and service at this winery was sorely lacking. The tasting room server should be both knowledgeable and courteous in performing their task. We were coldly greeted by what I would refer to as a wine pourer. For that is all she did, pour it in the glass and leave. There was a $5 tasting fee. I really don't have a problem with that when the service is good, the server is courteous and when wine is purchased the tasting fee is removed. Yes we did buy 2 bottles of wine and were charged the tasting fee above the cost of the wine. While we liked the two wines we purchased, I would believe it is fair to say the majority of their wines we tasted were mediocre at best. Trained, knowledgeable and courteous servers would go a long way in making the experience at Red Oak Winery much more enjoyable. As far as the quality of the wine that is the wine makers issue. We are not new to wine tasting. We have done so in California, Washington, Oregon and a few other states. You really do have much to learn as a winery!

Most winerys that you go to in Door County have free wine tasting. You hover around a counter and pick off of a list and get a few samples. At Red Oaks, you pay $5 for 7 samples of wine. The sample is more then a "sample."
The winery itself is very beautiful. You go in, sit at the wine bar, listen to the music and go over their very informative wine list. We actually got to taste the wines, read about them, not feel rushed or that we were asking for too many samples.
$5 is a very small price to pay for a place to sit at for an hour and try some very delicious wine.

My hubbie and I have been coming to DC for 20 years. We stopped at Red Oak today and could not have had a better experience. Peg and Bill were working the tasting room and they were delightful. Very knowledgeable and personable. The personality made this my favorite stop. Not rushed and a nice selection.

We recently traveled to Door County for wine tasting. This was the only winery that we went to that had a fee for the tasting. We do not mind paying a fee however, other wineries we've been to will refund your tasting fee if you make a purchase. This is not the case at Red Oak Winery . You are not paying for the ambiance because it's a steel poll building.

OK, first the winery is in a large warehouse building in a treeless field. Now that that is out of the way, on to the important stuff. Once inside the building, you are greeted by a very attractive tasting area. The afternoon my wife and I visited, a very accomplished guitarist, Troy Therrien, entertained the visitors. Both individuals working the tasting room were extremely knowledgeable about the wines, as well as being very friendly.

The wines themselves are a bit pricey in contrast to other local wineries. However, once you taste these wines, you understand the very high quality. The selections we tried would hold up well against any of the better Sonoma or Napa offerings. Most of the grapes used in these wines are from California.

We will definitely return to Red Oak Winery on our next visit, and, once we drink the bottles we purchased during our visit, we will be placing an order for more.

I had a great experience visiting Red Oak- It was my first time checking out this winery. I truly enjoyed the visit. I got to sample some fantastic wine and our wine expert was extremely knowledgeable. I won't forget Lana because she took the time to listen to the wines I was interested in and she made her recommendations for what suited my likes. She told me about the 'Autumn Crisp' in particular which was by far my favorite! I experienced friendly hospitality , got some fabulous wine, and had a great time with my boyfriend and my friends. It is a great place and I'll make that one of my regular stops when I visit Door County again.

Unsatisfied and will probably never go back...not when there are other more wonderful wineries than this place. The customer service gets an "F" in every branch. 1) First of all, it moved and didn't update the map location, so after driving for over an hour, I got to a closed parking lot with no signage that it changed locations. I called, and it was 6-7 minutes back in a direction I already drove, essentially adding 15 minutes to my drive by going back and forth and stopping to call. 2) When I got there, they cashed other people out and walked away from the register, leaving me to stand there for several minutes with no greeting, until my boyfriend and I sat ourselves at the bar. 3) By then I didn't want anything. So my boyfriend ordered the wine selections and we got to share a plate of plain oyster crackers with another couple. He paid the $5, when other wineries offer free tastings. We didn't get any cheese, bread, or chocolate, even though I found out it's Wonder Bread and Hersheys Kisses. 4) The bartender told us she only worked there for the wine discount and went down the list of all the ones she couldn't afford. I didn't want to spend a penny of my money at this winery. Go to others around for a much much better experience!!!

Sampling of 5 wines is $5. Location was great, walkable to the quaint main street of sturgeon bay. Building looks unappealing from the outside. Inside is really new, roomy though lacks character. Wine was good, like other door county wineries I've been to. What this place special was the woman who served us. She was very knowledgeable about the wine and Sturgeon Bay. She gave a an excellent recommendation for dinner at John Martin's
