    Enjoyed it
This was a very good cave experience. Our guide Will was awesome. He was a very enjoyable speaker. We took a plethora of ages (7, 14, 29, 38 & 67) and we all had fun. If your little ones enjoy rocks and caves this is a great opportunity.

    Excellent experience.
Very welcoming staff and neat experience. Tour was great, entertaining, lots of information and jokes about it. It was well balanced of knowledge and fun. Gift shop has some great gifts and memory items. Recommend to visit, especially on hot summer days, as it is nice and refreshing in the cave!

    Something for everyone
Beautiful park and wonderful experience. Enjoyed a picnic lunch on-site with the family before the cave tour. There is something enjoyable for all age groups. However, the cave tour is probably best suited for ages 5 and up. Tour guide Teddy was very knowledgeable and engaging. Remember to bring a sweatshirt in the summer months for the tour. It does get chilly in the cave. Our family will definitely be returning.

    Cool place to visit
First first for the 5- and 7-yr old grand boys, and they loved it. They were fascinated by the cave tour, with its fossils and minerals and cool lore, and enjoyed "panning for minerals as well." Temps in the cave were a nice bonus yesterday :)

I’ve been here a few times and really enjoyed our first time. Obviously it’s a cave so not much changes. Unfortunately on our tour two teens had also been on the tour and so they announced everything before the tour guide did. But I think they may have had some special needs, so it was ok. Although I wish their parents had said something.
Additionally my middle school child didn’t want to do the tour as he remembered it from before. He was just going to stay in the car, and I wish he had! I asked him if he wanted to play mini golf while he waited, and he said yes. But the employees at Crystal caves said I couldn’t leave him unattended. Being the only adult with 3 kids I had no other options. My oldest daughter really wanted to tour the cave, so although they offered a refund that wasn’t an option either.
I mentioned I had my cell phone if my son needed me, and they said cell phones don’t work in the cave. Since I had already paid for mini golf, I asked if they would cover the rest of the cost of my sons cave tour, since they were basically forcing him to go. Although she did apply the cost of the mini golf towards the tour price, she refused to cover the rest ($8). The minute the tour started, our tour guide (she was very nice btw) said, “don’t worry if you need anything like a bathroom or you get claustrophobic we have walk-talkies and I can contact the surface.” “You mean like if my son was playing mini golf and they needed his parent?” I couldn’t help but say…

Our tour guide Cameron was great and had a good sense of humour, but the caves themselves were underwhelming. There was a distinct lack of crystals that one is able to easily see, although one should know that those are “within the rock”. Overall not a big or pretty cave, therefor the $20 ticket price is unreasonable.

We're glad you enjoyed Cameron as your tour guide! We are sorry that you were underwhelmed with the amount of crystals in our cave. The original owners of the cave back in the 1940’s were amateur geologists, and they named the cave Crystal Cave because of the geologically unique yet small druzy quartz crystals that can be found throughout the limestone.

I took six children ages 2-11 (all cousins) on the one hour walking tour. They were engaged and entertained the whole tour! The staff was kind, knowledgeable, prompt, and helpful.

The grounds, gift shop, and landscaping were clean, well maintained, and the wildflowers were beautiful.

Bathrooms were available immediately before the tour, but not during the tour. The 2 year old made it 50 minutes before having to pee again, and the guide graciously called an escort and we were all guided to the surface and the restroom. It cut our tour short by 10 minutes, but I still felt we got a great experience for the price! So please note when taking kids you cannot leave the cave and return!

Afterwords, we sluiced bags of sand for gems & fossils and had a picnic. Again, staff at the prospectors mine helped by taking our empty sand bags to the trash and bringing us a Sharpie to label our bags of collected gems.

I would highly recommend this attraction, for kids and adults, and I hope to be back again with other family members.

Great tour and the most well-kept attraction I’ve ever been to. The tour is about an hour and probably favors smaller kids. But it was nice. The mini golf course was picture-perfect without a blade of grass misplaced. This place is like a postcard come to life.

This is a pretty neat cave. The tour starts after taking a spiral staircase down into the earth.
Big rooms, small peaks into other parts with baby stalagmites and stalagtites. Tall ceilings. Low crouchy ceilings. Cave kisses. We didn't see any bats, apparently they come back in October when it gets cooler out.
Our tour guide was most delightful.
Worthy of 5 stars!!

We're so glad you enjoyed all of the formations Crystal Cave has to offer. The time you'll see bats is definitely towards the end of October when it's getting really cold out and the beginning of April. You'll definitely have to come back some time and see if you can spot some!

I took the one hour walking tour with my 7-year old son. The tour guide did a good job and was knowledgeable. Some of the facts about the cave are fascinating. I would definitely recommend appropriate walking shoes and long sleeves as the cave is approx. 50 degrees. The gift shop has some very unique items that are reasonably priced. We also played mini golf and it was really fun! There are random dinosaur facts at each hole and the course is tucked at the edge of a wildflower field. There is also gem panning but I would say that's for a little bit smaller children. All in all, Crystal Cave is a wonderful and family-friendly attraction to visit!

I have driven innumerable trips between north central, Wisconsin and St. Paul, MN since 1988. For those 33 years I have noticed the Visit Crystal Cave billboards, and always said someday I must visit. I did so today and I'm glad I did. The guided tour took an hour and was very informative. Our guide was Seth, a geology major at UW. I found the history of its discovery by two teenagers fascinating. It was discovered thanks to a woodchuck! There certainly doesn't seem to be anything different about the geography of the area that would make you think there was a cave beneath the surface.

I recommend a light jacket even if the outside weather is 95 degrees like today was. I also wouldn't wear open sandals.

Thank you for such a detailed review, Elizabeth! We are glad to see that you found Crystal Cave to be worth your while, and hope you can visit us again soon. Fun fact: the reason the the cave is 50F is that it is the average annual temperature of our area.

Well organized, easy access, not a difficult climb or walk. Took our young grandkids [5&6], they loved it. The adults enjoyed it as much as the kids. Worth the trip!

Panning for gems and fossels was a highlight

Just outstanding! The adults and children all had a wonderful time. The whole adventure exceeded everyones expectations. The cave tour was very educational and the tour guide was very informative. The kids had a blast gem panning. We ate lunch at their very nice picnic area. The recent upgrades that they made are great. My wife commented that she has never seen nicer bathrooms. Don’t miss the actual fossils in the bathroom tile. Wish we planned for more time as the miniature golf looked fun and we weren’t able to take in the walking trails.

Simply awesome. Beautiful facilities. Shaded picnic area under mature trees. Knowledgeable guides. Kids and adults were thrilled with the cave experience itself. Not a difficult walk inside the cave, just grab a sweatshirt and hiking boots or shoes with some traction (only if you feel you ‘ll need it. Otherwise paths are well lit and not dangerous.) highly recommend rock panning with kids - everyone got cool rocks in our bag. Miniature golf was fun. Nature setting and the drive from Twin Cities made this was an amazing weekend adventure.
