Excellent indoor and outdoor theater!

APT never disappoints. We recently saw The Mountaintop in the indoor Touchstone Theatre and it was excellent. The actors were terrific and APT does a great job of making one feel comfortable in this new covid world. I highly recommend!

A Must See Experience
Aug 2020
Watching Shakespeare outdoors makes the experience so much more enjoyable. The cart member’s always put on a spectacular show. My friend & I go to at-least one play every year. You can buy food & drink at the concession stand, or enjoy a picnic before the show. Seriously this is an unforgettable experience!

Great venue for theatrical performances

This is a remarkable place for people to experience. I have come here since I was a child and always enjoyed the joyful atmosphere and lovely performances. It is a true joy to travel to the theatre with verdant hills and lush landscapes.

A little Out of the Way but Never Disapointing
Jul 2019
We have gone to this theater for over 10 years and have always enjoyed the productions. The store of actors are a highly accomplished team of veterans and younger talent. We have especially enjoyed the Shakespeare productions. Many people picnic prior to the performances and the extensive grounds have many strategically placed picnic tables. Anyone attending performances does have to realize that this is an outdoor theater and allowances for weather do have to be made. I have watched performance through light rains, blistering heat, mild chills, and mosquito attacks. APT offers plenty of sprays to handle the mosquitoes but the rest is up to you. After attending over 20 performances, we were only rained out once but did have to wait in the rain during delays several times. All this is worth it because of the sky high quality of APT productions.

Truly great plays and acting.
Sep 2019
It is quite a drive to get to American Players Theatre in Spring Green, but it is very beautiful there, and the plays are just wonderful! Some of our friends have discovered wonderful bus trips to make a social event of the long drive. We have been going since they first opened, and even went ahead of time to make dinners for the actors between shows. The goid okd days when we were young! The theatre is GREAT and the town is fun and interesting. Also Frank Lloyd Wright buildings and connections. There are good gift shops at the APT theatre and at the Restaurant that has Wright info in the beautiful info booth.

The plays are excellent, and the gardens and wildflowers also really special.

We always drove back home even tho it was late. The hotels were so expensive. And we had multiple drivers to share the trip.

A delightful venue for summer theater in South Central Wisconsin
Sep 2019
We come to APT every year for 1-2 plays, taking in at least one of their Shakespeare productions. The productions are a delight with talented cast members, crew, and leadership. Plan on a picnic before--it's part of the experience. Be prepared for weather. The show will on unless the a severe rain or thunderstorm appears. We have not been disappointed by the quality of productions at APT!

APT still well worth the drive
Sep 2019
It's a long way from Chicago just to see a play but it's always worth the ride. My husband and I caught 2 Shakespeare plays this year at American Players Theatre. I'd forgotten how beautifully hilly it is in Spring Green and all there is to do (the theatre, Taliesin, Bobfest, etc.) APT never fails to put on a beautiful and professional show in the midst of cow pastures and the rolling hills of lovely Spring Green. Where else can you sit mesmerized by a cultured event taking place amidst the sounds of nature, under a darkened summers night.

APT is celebrating its 40th year. Your visit will be memorable. Excellent production of classic theater. This year we have seen Twelfth Night, Macbeth and Fences. You can picnic prior. There are multiple areas. There are two theaters (Touchstone-indoors and Up the Hill-outdoors). Actors are highly professional with credits from venues in Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and across America. If you are in the Madison area for any reason, plan ahead and make APT a bucket list visit.

She Stoops To Conquer is fabulously entertaining, as are all the plays we’ve seen here both in The Hill outdoor theater and in the Touchstone theater indoors. Just an incredible gem.

There’s at least one play for the grumpiest customer every year. We order in April to get the best prices and exchanges are easy if our schedule changes.
