If you are in Sheboygan and have a couple of hours to kill this is an interesting and enjoyable experience . The property is atop a hill over looking the area. Here is where Judge Taylor built a stately house for his wife. On this property is also located the 1864 Weinhold log cabin homestead, the 1867 Bodenstab Cheese Factory and the 1890s Schuchardt Barn and agricultural display. The tour guides are helpful and knowledgeable. In the museum you can go thru changing and seasonal displays concerning the area history. There is also a very nice gift shop.

The Sheboygan County Historical Museum is housed on the grounds of Taylor Park at 3110 Erie Avenue on the west side of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Established in 1923, it contains a collection of over 30,000 artifacts and includes the historical David Taylor House, the 1864 Weinhold Family Homestead, the 1890s Schuchardt Barn with rural agricultural displays and the 1867 Bodenstab Cheese Factory with early commercial cheese making implements. The museum also features seasonal displays, temporary exhibits, a classroom and a museum store. Exhibits include Native American history, ice harvesting, maritime, circus, local sports and early agriculture. The David Taylor House, built in the early 1850s by Sheboygan County Judge David Taylor, one of Sheboygan's prominent citizens in the city's early years, became county property around 1900 and was later used as a county sheriff's office and county jail from 1915 to 1936. The museum was originally housed on the first floor, then was expanded to include the entire building in the early 1970s. The current museum was opened in 1997 across the grounds.

We love museums and this one is worth a visit.
It's great for kids and adults. You get to see a lot history from this area.
We did not have a guided tour, which is perfectly fine with us. That way we could take our time and enjoy walking through all 4 buildings.
The staff in the main building is friendly and helpful.

Some very nice animations based on Christmas theme. We also enjoyed the historical information. It was a good way to spend ten dollars.

Wonderful collection of local history, including the legendary Prange department store holiday window displays (think "A Christmas Story"), local life from the mid-1800s, and nice grounds.

I had a few hours to spend before checking into our hotel and decided to visit this museum with two of my daughters. I'm so glad we went! My daughters and I walked through the museum first. It's small, but nice. They had a temporary 'Paper Wall' exhibit commentating Vietnam vets in the area who died. They had a small civil war exhibit that kids could interact with. After going through the museum we had a tour of the Taylor house, a log cabin, cheese factory and old barn. The docent was so very knowledgable when showing us around. We learned a few interesting things. The docent (I wish I had his name) really seemed to enjoy what he was doing. The tours were supposed to start at 11:00 & 3:00 I believe. We got there around 11:30 and were given a tour anyway. I highly recommend this tour. I wish tripadvisor had photos.

We always enjoy visiting, especially at Christmas.

The display of old department store windows is a particular favorite.

Of course the main house is always wonderfully decorated and we always enjoy the log cabin and the simple Christmas that those folks celebrated.

Highly recommended.

Watch closing time, it's easy to lose track of time and end up racing through because we spent so much time as we went along.

Great historical visit of the property. You can walk through the house and out buildings, take a tour of the exhibits and they have special programs as well. Great for adults and kids. The Christmas event is awesome. The Christmas displays and decorations of the home was breath taking.
