Zoo With A View
Oct 2021
On the outside, this zoo didn't look like all that much, but once we got inside we were pleasantly surprised. It's much bigger than it looks, very clean and well kept, and a total bargain at only $10 admission. We had a great time, saw lots of interesting animals, and in early October it wasn't crowded at all. We were really glad we stopped here. Another nice feature is that the zoo sits right along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Beautiful views.

Love all of the zoo. The kangaroo exhibit is my favorite. It has quite a few interactive activities and events.

...a little disappointing
Aug 2021
This zoo has lovely grounds..on the Lake..with a fountain. It's a very pleasant place to walk around. Senior rate is $9.00 each.
Unfortunately, we saw very few animals. Most must be in the buildings out of the summer heat. Since masks are required at the moment to go inside, we didn't go into any. We saw meerkats, an owl, stork, a monkey...plus a few more. At that time, early afternoon on a weekday, there were lots of happy children on outings for camp or with moms or grandparents. There are places for food & drink, playground areas, a small train that circles the area with a guide explaining the various exhibits. There also are areas for weddings & group outings.

Are those animals happy?
Jul 2021
What a disappoint for my 6 year old grandson. The grounds were well kept, however, the monkey building smelled so rank, we had to get out. The penguin exhibit had dead fish in the water overflow. There was a sad cockatiel in a cage in the small reptile room. No refreshment stands, the glass for the enclosures were FILTHY.
My grandson did enjoy the playground. But,you can go anywhere for that.

Racine, you have dropped the ball. All ever heard was how nice our zoo is. I am terribly disappointed. It makes me wonder how well those animals are cared for.

Christmas lights
Jan 2021 • Couples
They had to do something in these covid times and created a drive-thru light show. They also did this at Halloween. Very creative and a fun thing to do in these times.

So unfriendly to International Zoo Pass Holders
Jul 2020
Twice now our International Zoo Pass has not been welcomed and honored for the reciprocity rate. This is inexcusable!!! Each time I checked the website and called ahead to assure it would be honored and then was initially refused at the ticket office. Three strikes your out!!!...but I doubt we will even bother to give the Racine Zoo an other chance.

Lovely, smaller zoo on the shores of Lake Michigan!
Jul 2020 • Family
We were quite impressed with Racine Zoo. Don’t expect what you might be used to compared to its bigger brother zoos (Brookfield, Milwaukee, Lincoln Park), but that was a good thing. This is a lovely, small zoo beautifully located on scenic Lake Michigan. There is plenty to see but you’re not overwhelmed by the size or crowds. Very clean and animals seemed well cared for. The Jungle Grill restaurant provided limited food, snacks, treats and beverages for a fraction of what I was used to paying at other zoos. I was able to let everyone get whatever they wanted and wasn’t gouged! You can feed giraffes, parakeets, play with goats etc. in addition to viewing all sorts of wonderful animals. Admission was very reasonable as well plus parking was free. The zoo is spread out so social distancing was not a problem. We had no problem with crowds and everyone wore masks. The staff was very diligent about reminding people to wear their masks at all times and fully up on the nose as well. They were courteous and I really appreciated that mask wearing and safety protocols were in place and enforced. (Not the case at other zoos.) Did I mention the beautiful views of Lake Michigan! Gorgeous! A nice day was had by all.

Great Fun
Jul 2020 • Family
This lovely little zoo is a great place for family fun and is quite reasonably priced. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the site has some great views . Penguins, lions, bears, zebras, kangaroos, monkeys, antelope and giraffes are well cared for and displayed. There is a walk in aviary and a petting zoo! Plus two nice play areas and plenty on seating. You can take a train ride and even feed the giraffes?
A special brunch with the animals is a real treat.
I was very impressed with their Covid safety precautions. This is one of the few places you can take small children during the crisis, even if all visitors must wear masks

I haven't been to my hometown zoo in probably a good 20 years - been wanting to bring my New Hampshire wife here for the past 10 years...kind of wish I had waited another 40 years when I would be too old to walk these grounds.

There is no rhyme or reason to the this zoo's layout - it's a series of multiple wood and wire fences that wind you around to various exhibits and once you are out in the open space of the zoo, there is nothing to look at except the band shell and Lake Michigan. In all the years that the zoo has been open, you would think they would have expanded with a larger selection of animals especially now that they are charging $10 per person for admission...admission to see what? I have to say - the zoo was much better 40 years ago when it was free - it had a better layout, some appealing, fascinating and fun animals and it peeked your interest to keep walking around to peer thru the cages or stick your nose up to the glass. This most recent visit wiped-out a ton of nice memories...

This is one sad zoo that could be one exceptional Racine tourist spot ...but I feel it is far from being that. Perhaps the staff is friendly, there are a handful of cool animals and the zoo fountain has not been replaced but those few things don't make up for a disappointing visit. It's a wonder this zoo is still open.

Great family fun

They have come a long way from when I was a kid. Worth the time to stop by. Great animals and the staff is really friendly. Even the off season has fun things to do with the family.
