Toured the grounds and buildings with great tour guide! Even brought our kids and they liked it! Went during the weekend of the 1812 war reenactment so it was busier than usual. The reenactment was LOUD and a little longer than our kids would've liked but it got their attention. Enjoyed the kid friendly activities (stilts, militia march) but these... More

Really enjoyed our tour, was just the two of us so could ask many questions. Beautiful house and grounds. Many other buildings to explore.

This is a must see if you are anywhere close to Prairie du Chien and have an interest in history. The house has been incredibly restored, with 90% of the original furnishings, and the vintage photos are proof of that. Allow at least 2 hours for both the guided tour and your self tour. (Note: guided tours are stated to... More

This is a lovely historical site I wasn't aware of. The tour was interesting with many historical facts about the Dousman family, fur trading and the war. Our tour guide was great and one of the impressive facts she mentioned was that the house retains 90% original furnishings. Gorgeous woodwork, furniture china, etc. The grounds are well manicured with great... More

Villa Louis is meticulously restored to its 1890 state, based on numerous photos and written accounts. The mansion is not huge, but is packed with Victorian-era items. The villa can be toured for $12.50 for adults, and the guides are very good. Very interesting history of the Dousman family and its ups and downs. Tour includes a lot of interesting... More

Fairly interesting tour but very little in historical culture or information. Would liked to have heard more about the historical significance of the family and estate.

If you're looking at this, you should take this tour. The cost is more than reasonable. $5 for kids under 17, and even less (maybe free) for very young children. Adults are $12.50, but seniors (over 65) were, I think $10. All in all, not much for a great outing. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. Our tour guide was... More

This is a must see if you are the least bit interested in history. The building is awesone, the grounds are fabulous and the staff is great!

Beautiful home and wonderful stories about the Dousman family. I had no idea this home existed before--and I'm glad I finally learned about it. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and the home had can't be beat artifacts.
