The Paine Art Center and Gardens is a historic estate with art galleries and display gardens, located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The historic Paine estate serves as a multi-faceted museum for learning and inspiration. The museum preserves the mansion, surrounding architectural structures, and many of the interiors as they were created by founders Nathan and Jessie Kimberly Paine. Selections from the museum's art collection, much of which was acquired by Nathan and Jessie, are featured in the many rooms and settings of the estate. Outdoors, the Paine maintains and enhances numerous display gardens as "galleries" of horticulture with varied designs and thousands of plant specimens. In addition, the museum presents a wide variety of changing art exhibitions, from historical to contemporary, within the estate's galleries and gardens. The Family Discovery Gallery, located on the house's lower level, offers "hands on" activities about architecture, art, and gardens for people of all ages.

We came here to see the Audibon display on American birds. First of all the mansion and it's gardens are beautiful! Just walking around the gardens and through the mansion is well worth the 9$ admission. We arrived just in time to take in a lecture on Audubon given by a docent. We would have been happy to see Audubon's... More

Its nice to see how the rich would live, but unfortunately after going to all the trouble of building this gorgeous mansion, the owners never got to live in it. The gardens are spectacular and we were on hand as a wedding started, such a perfect setting. Take a stroll through the gardens and enjoy all the different flowers which... More

Drawn in by the Audubon Birds of America Exhibition. We were a little put off with $9 per person admission, but it was certainly worth it. The galleries of Audubon prints were fantastic as was the informative video. These exhibits change throughout the year. Equally as interesting was the Paine house, which is architecturally impressive and has been painstakingly staged... More

We stopped here on a driving tour of the Lake Winnebago area. It is located on a lovely tree-lined street with parking available on the side street or in a parking lot nearby. The home is covered in beautiful Kasota limestone from Minnesota which has a golden glow to it. The lines of home are quite graceful as you walk... More

Whatever the reason you visit Oshkosh, the Paine Art Center and Gardens should be on your "to do" list. The visiting exhibits are outstanding and the building and grounds are as much a work of art as the exhibit's they hold.

What a great display of Christmas, trees, decorations, nutcrackers. They tell the nutcracker story via displays in the differently decorated rooms in the mansion. Beautiful and interesting for all ages.

My only regret about this place is that there was no gift shop to buy some photographs or copies of artifacts. The gardens were beautiful! I would like to return earlier in the year to see the tulips. The video at the start of the self guided tour is a must! What a gem that is probably missed by many... More
