This is a nice trail that travels along the Mississippi River and it's tributaries and backwaters. It is a former railway bed, so it is quite straight and flat, perfect for an easy run or bike ride. By most accounts it starts in downtown Onalaska and works its way up to Trempeleau, about 13 miles. There are a few benches... More

The trail is very relaxing and there are a lot of great views of nature in the coulee region. Would definitely recommend!

I rode this from La Crosse North to the Trempealeau Federal Reserve and back. The trail parallels the Mississippi River for some stretches giving some really beautiful river views. Trail surface is pretty good for the whole distance with very gentle grades. Very limited on trail water opportunities so be sure to bring your own.

Great way to bike or walk along the river's backwaters and a chance to view wildlife. Trail has many bike shops and restaurants to shop and dine. Links to other bike trails also

The section we saw in Onalaska to Perrot State park was ok, not spectacular views of the river. Generally in good condition.

Nice easy drive up the west side of Wisconsin through many small towns and nice views of the river. Must see - Granddad Bluff and locks/dams - hopefully you'll see a barge going through

We started our Great River Road Tour (WI) at Hudson moving south to Prairie do Chain and then finished on the Iowa side visiting friends in Dubuque. Planned this weekend to sample as many good authentic BBQ places as possible and compare styles. BBQ was not highlighted much, though, however there were a few we missed due to having already... The section of the trail from Lytle's Landing (good parking spot) towards Trempeleau is quite scenic. Though primarily used as a biking trail, this is also a very nice walking path. This section, about 6 or 7 miles in distance crosses several bridges of Black River sloughs. Have seen turtles and frogs, and your ride/walk will be full of song... More

The area ridden through on this trail is beautiful, absolutely. I have ridden many trails in Minnesota and Wisconsin and NEVER have I seen a TRAIL in such ill repair. Long grass in the middle of the lane, limestone bed of the trail has hardly any limestone left and therefore, there are muddy or hard mud ruts on the trail... More

It's always good to see beautiful scenery. Looking over the Mississippi, and seeing the carved-out bluffs can't be beat.
