We skidded in ... last car to load. They helped us maneuver into our spot. We went up to a comfy seat where food was available if desired. It was fun to meet others crossing the lake. They shared some interesting facts about the lake...More

I love the Lake Express. It is a seamless and easy easy to get across the lake. The staff have the operation down, and make boarding and simple process whether you are traveling in your car on on foot. It’s definitely a luxury, as it...More

The ferry ride worked out great- motorcycles were free in September. It saved us many miles of driving- it was a very cold day- didn't have to drive thru Chicago- we were just able to relax!

Wonderful way to save a day of driving! I needed to get to Grand Rapids from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and it worked perfect! The staff on board were helpful and polite. I took a premium fare and it was peaceful and the Internet was good.

This is our second time to use this ferry. We took our car this time. The staff are extremely competent at both terminals, but Muskegon is easier to deal with when taking a car. The boarding process is very well coordinated. In Milwaukee, it is...More

I've taken this ferry many times and I have never experienced a delay or cancellation. Having said that, the lake can be a little less predictable in October. I probably would not risk it.

Michigan to Minneapolis (3 Replies)
We'll be travelling by Greyhound next May from Toronto to Minneapolis using the Lake Express Ferry to Wisconsin. We want to stop in Kalamazoo.I asked questions about that town on this forum 2 years ago but we didn't make it then! So any new idea about Kalamazoo would be most welcome. Then we intend going to Muskegon to get the ferry. We have plenty of time so would appreciate any ideas of places nearby or accessible by bus, that we shouldn't miss. We are 2 seniors, without a car and like...More

I do not know Kalamazoo very well but I know some people who tried to take the ferry last weekend and it was full. I would check into reserving your spot on the ferry you want so you do not get left behind. Good Luck!

Car hire (6 Replies)
We (4 adults from Australia) are arriving from Milwaukee to Muskegon on the ferry, and want to hire a car at the Lake Express terminal in Muskegon. Does anyone have any advice? We will be travelling to Washington Dc and then down to South Carolina.

Well, the timing of this was wierd. Due to personel concerns i was up all night watching the question appear, dissappear, reappear, dissappear, then reappear. Lol. Not sure why your taking the ferry versing renting a car from your arrival city and driving through Chicago unless....you just want to experience the big lake. Right at the docks area there is an Enterprise Rental Car Company but they are only open when the ferry arrives, which is what you need. The Muskegon Airport has four car...More

1 Day visit from West Yellowstone without a car. (7 Replies)
Hello, I am going to be based in West Yellowstone in early September for a planned 3 day visit to the Yellowstone region. I will be travelling solo, without renting a car. For the end of the trip I am intending a 1 day visit, to see the highlights of Grand Teton From what i have found so far, my best option is to use the Linx bus service running from the West Yellowstone visitor center down to Flagg Ranch. From there I am hoping to get at least as far as Colter Bay, or Jenny Lake if...More

That's great D0bby. Thank you so much. A tour with Three Bear Lodge looks just right. You are right that information from SLC Express is thin on the ground. I have a feeling that any service they offer in Grand Teton may only run intermittently, if at all.
