When I describe Discovery World, I tell people it's a cross of Shedd Aquarium and Museum of Science and Industry (both in Chicago, IL). This is a very hands-on museum and you're encouraged to actively participate throughout the museum. The one downfall is that when exhibits need repair, it takes a while to be fixed (the Soo Locks section in... More

It seems that a lot of museums that focus on activities for kids and families tend to skew to the younger set. We just finished a visit to Discovery World that impressed and engaged a 15 year-old boy and 12 year-old girl. We arrived early on a Saturday morning and enjoyed little to no wait time on many of the... More

I was part of a "spouse tour" for a convention and visited with the entire convention in the evening for an outdoor picnic. We were free to tour the aquarium inside which was nice. But by all accounts, the highlight was the children's tour during the day. The kids loved all of the hands-on experiential science in the part of... More

No offense, but this place is nothing special if you've visited premier aquariums. Entry level area seems to be very dated. Fish tanks are very clear and there is some hands on for kids, but this isn't a place you need to spend more than an hour at.

A place of innovation and discovery and technology. There are many exhibits, so plan wisely and enjoy. For kids, a must visit.

My 3 year old daughter loved the aquarium and loved playing on the replica of the schooner Challenge. The rest of the museum, while visually stimulating, was for kids much older than her. We will probably go again in 5 years.

I am a scuba instructor and had high expectation when I told that it was about fresh water marine life and water purification, etc. The exhibits were hard to follow. The labeling of the fish in the aquarium was done via the touch screen software and it was difficult to use and very slow. Sometimes the fish info was not... More

Our 2 year old and baby enjoyed the aquarium. It's a very nice part of the museum to see the fish etc. The rest wasn't really for his age.

This was our third visit to the museum and once again, we were not disappointed. This time though, we brought our children. Ages 14, 9, and 5. They had a blast! We spent four hours here and enjoyed a great lunch at the Cafe. The kids loved the Aquarium the best. A very family friend museum that's worth the price.... More

I'd probably recommend for kids six or older, there are many hands-on activities for most ages. Weekends are wonderful as Kohl's has their Discovery Lab where kids can try different activities for free, encouraging reusing materials. Aquarium is fantastic and the music lab is quite engaging.
