The Alchemist Theater offers original productions at a low price. Their productions, while very low budget, are always well done, entertaining, and presented with enthusiasm from the cast and crew. The owners cleverly use their adjacent cocktail lounge to complement whatever show is playing, i.e., decorating it in foil and faux pop art for a recent show based on Andy... More

We enjoyed "king Leer" at the Alchemist. This theater seats only about 60, so you feel really close to the action. The cast were very professional and a joy to watch. Actors often entered and exited the stage from the back, giving the audience an "in the scene" experience. In the lobby, there is a full service bar and you... More

We recently caught a play called "Help Wanted" at the Alchemist Theater in Bayview, Wisconsin. It was the best play I have seen in years. It was a play written by the owner of the theatre. I believe his name is Aaron. The Alchemist has a warm and cozy feel and when the play started it felt that I was... More

There's no doubt about it - no matter how much your coworker gushes about that new movie with whats-her-nuts in it, you are taking a gamble with your evening. Why not skip the movie (which will be available on netflix in 3, 2, 1...now) & be sure that your evening will be filled with great theater instead?! I've never been... More

Discovered this three years ago and both the atmosphere, decor and shows get better and better. Miss the old cushier seats, but they definitely needed to go a little smaller to fit more in to this tiny place. Always comfortable and entertaining. Always get what they call the pirate mai tai cocktail. A must-see for everyone I bring to Milwaukee!!

First of all the drinks are tasty and strong. Try the Ninja! Hanging out in the lobby before the show is great. Feels like some of the off-off-broadway spots. Not sure if it is open during the week but it is a nice bar with a good variety of cocktails. No tap beer, however, which is strange for Milwaukee! I... More

Really outstanding gem. We've seen a few shows here over the past two years and even when the place is jam packed, the show feels like it is just for you. Dracula was a gigantic show packed into a small stage. Really cool stuff. Sometimes scary sometimes funny sometimes really sexy. This year we saw a show called Fortune which... More

I used to go to the Alchemist all the time to see shows when I lived in Milwaukee. I have since moved away but still stop by to see whatever's playing when I come back to visit. The theatre is a smallish 50-seat black box attached to a bar/lounge area, and almost all their stuff is locally-written plays or comedy.... More

The Alchemist is a great little theatre that specializes in new avant garde pieces and local playwrights. It's a great place to catch edgy, affordable theatre.

Okay, so you're looking for something to do this weekend. Check out the Alchemist Theatre. A smaller venue, to be sure, but they're not afraid to take some chances...and that's what new theater is all about. Yes, you can go see Annie or Joseph and his Coatie-Thing but those will always be there and will probably be about the same.... More
